In this article, we have provided our Fantasy Premier League tips & predictions ahead of Gameweek 9 of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.
Premier League football is back this weekend, as FPL managers stress over making transfers, playing chips and deciding who to captain for Gameweek 9. Here are our latest FPL tips that should hopefully help make all of those informed decisions…
Our Fantasy Premier League tips
FPL gives out points based on player performances, which can be both positive and negative. It can range from a player scoring a goal (positions are given more points than others, for example a defender will gain six points for scoring a goal as opposed to four for a forward) or being shown a yellow card (-1pt), as well as many other metrics.
Who to have as FPL captain
In Gameweek 9, if you own him, Erling Haaland seems like the most obvious captain choice, with Manchester City host struggling Southampton. However, for those FPL managers who do not own Haaland or want to pick a cheaper differential captain, Cole Palmer could also be a viable option as Chelsea play Newcastle United at home.
Selection | Market-best price |
---|---|
Cole Palmer to score anytime |

Cole Palmer to score first |

Cole Palmer to score 2+ |

Cole Palmer to score hat-trick |
35/1 |
Should the triple-captain chip be used?
Assuming that Haaland is the most viable captain choice in Gameweek 9, using the triple-captain chip on him could be tempting, especially given the fact that Southampton are 19th in the table without a win all season. However, we would advise, if it has not been used already, to use the chip in a double gameweek, where teams play more than one fixture and therefore give more of a chance of a big points haul for the captain.
Who is likely to get booked?
Nicolas Jackson is a fairly popular player in FPL with 17.1% ownership at the time of writing, but has picked up three yellow cards so far this season. This should come as a warning to all of those FPL managers who own the Chelsea star, as two more bookings will result in a one-game suspension.
The Blues host Newcastle in Gameweek 9, in a match that could see plenty of frustration for Jackson should he not be given chances.
Market-best odds on Nicolas Jackson to be booked: 13/5
Which defender is most likely to score?
Josko Gvardiol already boasts two goals for Manchester City so far in the 2024/25 campaign, the joint-most for defenders. City will be huge favourites to beat Southampton at the Etihad Stadium, and Gvardiol showed against Wolves in their 2-1 win at Molineux last weekend that he is capable of scoring wonder goals when marauding forward from his left-back position.
Market-best odds on Josko Gvardiol to score anytime: 11/2
Our top three cheap in-form players
Georginio Rutter
Georginio Rutter has scored an impressive 24 points in his last three games in FPL, and has seemingly earned himself a starting place at Brighton and Hove Albion. At just £5.5m and with bottom-of-the-table Wolves at home next, the midfielder could be a bargain pick.
Dwight McNeil
Dwight McNeil only costs £5.8m in FPL, and is a great midfielder to have in the squad, given Everton's relatively kind fixtures on paper coming up. It is Fulham up next for the Toffees, and given that they are playing at Goodison Park, they will fancy their chances.
Dejan Kulusevski
At just £6.2m, Dejan Kulusevski is another potential bargain pick for FPL managers with 21 points in his last three matches. With a visit to struggling Crystal Palace up next for Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder should be confident of more returns.
