MANCHESTER CITY are the favourites to retain their Premier League crown next season according to Ladbrokes.
City have been installed at 7-4 to follow on from one of the most exhilarating title races in recent times which saw three teams assume the role of odds-on favourites in the run-in.
Liverpool, who were as short as 1-7 to become champions before their loss to Chelsea are the 9-2 third favourites for next season with Chelsea 9-4.
The betting suggests next season could be just as close with Manchester United (6-1) and Arsenal's (9-1) odds meaning five teams in total have single figure prices for next term.
Liverpool, who were 33-1 at the start of the season, would have been the biggest pre-season underdogs to win the title since Aston Villa in 1980-81.
Looking ahead to the World Cup it's Southampton players Luke Shaw and Rickie Lambert who appear to have played themselves into the squad in the last minutes of the season with Shaw cut to 1-3 from 1-1 and Lambert now 1-2 from 5-6.
Ashley Cole drifted from 1-4 to 8-13 after being 1-33 to make the squad when betting began last year. He's now tweeted to say he's retired from international football after being told by Roy Hodgson he won't be going to Brazil.
The latest news of course will hit the Shaw price as he's almost certainly heading to the finals now.

this has Ashley cole at 1-4 to make the squad, but sky sports said earlier that luke shaw had been chosen instead and that cole had been informed,
are there odds on cole not going mr fixit ??
bad jasper, I’ve said in the article the prices were before Cole’s tweet. No one will give you a price on Cole not going now – unless their server is on Mars.
Some papers were reporting the team earlier today when there was still decent prices to be had on Shaw, Lambert and Barkley. Although I’m still not 100% convinced Barkley will definitely go, we will find out tomorrow. Glad to see youth given a chance, Lampard shouldn’t be going in my opinion.
think the reason Lampard is going is because he is an incredibly fit guy who can still do a turn for various parts of a game…. so much experience…its okay having youth but its the presence of someone in there who has played the game at the highest level…. can,t believe the nonsense talked about when discussing a guys age
I had a small punt on wickham a few days back. England aren`t blessed with a lot of good forwards and with him being young and in good form, must have half a chance.
Shaun, from what I’ve heard there’s no chance of Wickham going.
Mr.Fixit almost had to get in contact with you using the gripe form today! When Lambert made the squad I logged into betfred to find a whole lot less than exoected in my account so I called their customer services and almost got fobbed off but then when I spoke to a different guy he spotted the problem straight away. Turns out their system had paid it as a winning bet but it recognised Lambert was 1 of 23 people to make the squad so divided my stake by 23 and settled the bet as that haha
PodTheRod, that’s unbelievable really.
I understand what your saying Robert but as the guy said on 5 live today if they aren’t going to play him are they bringing him to sit in the hotel and tell the younger players stories about previous tournaments? I didn’t say anything about his age being the reason why I think he shouldn’t go, I think Huddlestone has played his way into the squad over the course of this season at Hull and Barry has also had a good season at Everton.
Well done fraser forster great boost for him.
