BLUE POINT 14-1 racebets

Johnb says: “I have already advised Churchill for next year's 2000 Guineas & Derby – he has been really impressive this season and my view is he will get even better next year.

“Blue Point on the other hand is harder to call for how he will progress next year. If he trains on then in my view it’s a straight fight between Blue Point & Churchill but in the Derby Churchill is the only horse for me – he gives me the same excitement as Golden Horn did.

“But to answer my question earlier the most impressive horse I have seen this year is BLUE POINT with Churchill and Annie Power a close second and third.”

    AQUA DUDE 9/1 12.40 new
Waiting Patiently sets a decent standard and is the one to beat but im tempted to have a small punt on AQUA DUDE at the odds. He was put into a class 2 for his first chase start but jumped poorly and was eventually pulled up. Prior to that though his last hurdle race which he won he gave Present View (rated 141) 6lbs and a 3 1/2L beating. He also gave the 4th (rated 130) 6lbs and a 23 1/2L beating which according to the ratings would give him every chance today. Id also like to think the trainer deemed him good enough to contast such a hot race on chase debut that he thinks its worthwhile sending him on a 680m round trip for this race which is a drop in class and if he has ironed out his jumping issues could give the fav something to think about. Its also both the trainers and jockeys only runner/rider of the day.

    Best of luck to all

BHA to investigate jockeys allegedly switching urine samples at Kempton

The British Horse Authority are to investigate jockeys Graham Gibbons and Callum Shepherd allegedly switching urine samples at Kempton on Wednesday.
Stewards at the track held an enquiry following the fourth race on the card, a mile maiden, after a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Gibbons had substituted the urine sample that he was required to produce with that of Shepherd, a 19-year-old apprentice.
The stewards – Alastair Scrimgeour, Georgina Cartwright, Richard Westropp and Chris Rutter – heard evidence from the Sampling Officer, a valet, Gibbons, Shepherd and Paul Struthers, the Chief Executive of the PJA, who accompanied Shepherd.
They forwarded a report to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority for further consideration.
Button Up, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, finished sixth under Gibbons at 11-1. Shepherd did not ride in the race, which was won by Intermodal.

Gibbons, 35, has ridden in more than 9,000 races and this year celebrated his 1,000th winner.
Last month he was interviewed by stewards at Kempton after being involved in the pile-up that led to Freddie Tylicki suffering life-changing injuries. The stewards were satisfied the incident was accidental and took no further action.
Shepherd, based in North Yorkshire, began riding in 2014. The teenager has established himself as one of this year’s leading apprentices, riding 39 winners.
His only ride on the card was the Graeme McPherson-trained Harry Hunt, who beat one at 33-1 in the final race.

There have been instances of jockeys trying to deceive testers and the penalties have been severe.
In May, 2013, James Rogers was effectively banned for nine months after attempting to dupe drug-testers at Nottingham in the autumn of 2012.
The apprentice admitted the offence at a BHA inquiry when also found guilty of conduct prejudicial to racing.
Rogers had been booked for a single ride at Nottingham but left the track, telling the panel that he panicked when selected for a random urine sample as he knew it would test positive for alcohol. He asked a weighing-room colleague to provide a sample he could pass off as his own.
Eight years ago Ryan Mahon, then an amateur jockey, was banned for seven months by the BHA for failing to provide an acceptable urine sample to a BHA testing team at the British Racing School.
Mahon attempted to pass off a “cold” sample as one that he had recently produced.
If a rider cannot provide a sample immediately to testers, they are told to drink some water and bring one for testing as soon as possible.

    Morning all,

After a good day yesterday with Ten Sixty getting the job done and my other pick Landmeafortune coming second I am back with three picks today.

    1.20 Warwick – Briery Belle 3/1

Briery Belle beat a previous tip of mine (Vintage Clouds) on chase debut at Carlisle by 8 lengths. Making all from the front she jumped really well and left a really good impression. She is straight up to listed level for her second chase start today at Warwick but I think she can come up with the goods. Already a winner at this level over hurdles at Cheltenham by 3 lengths beating some useful horses she could turn out to be a really exiting chaser this season. Throughout her career she has constantly improved and I see no reason for that to stop today with a run already under her belt. It is also handy that she receives 6lbs for a few of her market rivals. At around the 3/1 mark I will be having an interest in Briery Belle.

    1.45 Newcastle – Casual Cavalier 10/1 EW

The tricky Casual Cavalier finally got his head in front at Kelso last time (the useful Misfits 2nd that day) and with the aid of Brian Hughes he could repeat the feat today. He endured a frustrating season last year with a number of seconds recorded but is clearly a horse with some talent, cheeckpieces are tried today in a bid to get him to focus fully on the job in hand. He steps up to 2 ½ miles and I expected it to suit and he also only received a 3lb penalty for his win last time. At around the 10/1 mark I am happy to side with him eachway.

    2.35 Clonmel – Golden Plan 10/1 EW

Golden Plan recorded a decent second on chasing debut earlier in the season at Sligo and was sent off a relatively short price last time at Cork, unfortunately that day he burst a blood vessel and was pulled up but I think he can build on the promise shown on reappearance. The step back in trip looks sure to suit as he didn’t quite get home at Sligo and the soft ground will be fine- he has recorded 3 career successes over rules all on soft or heavy going. Shane Butler takes of a handy 5lbs and I am hoping Golden Plan can put a bold showing.

    Thanks and GL to all

If the allegations against gibbons are right he is trying to hide something by switching samples.
Could be taking stuff to keep his weight down, can’t think of any other reason for this act, if so, he is cheating and should be banned for life.
If its true, it’s another sorry episode for the sport, already reeling from several controversies in recent years, too many to mention.

      • Mr Fixit 2 years ago

Latest: “The BHA can confirm that it has been contacted by the PJA on behalf of Graham Gibbons indicating that he will relinquish his jockeys’ licence with immediate effect.”

        • elvis parsley 2 years ago

Looks like he is quitting before the whole story comes out.
He will probably come up with a ‘I’m quitting so I can clear my name’ type of nonsense statement soon I guess.
