WHEN Bolton failed to beat Burnley in the early kick-off I sensed a bad day – but I was proved wrong.

For the opening day of the season it turned out to be a belter. My Super Single was beaten but the popular Top Treble won at 11-2 and I picked five correct homes at 17-1.

To round it all of my Bonkers Bet then came in late on as Anthony Stokes scored his second to make it Celtic 2, Ross County 1 and that was a 9-1 winner.

The homes were Aberdeen, Inverness, Nottm Forest, Reading and Fleetwood and the treble, enhanced by Betway.com, was ICT, Forest and Fleetwood.

I'm happy with those winners but please remember it won't be like this every week. I'll do my best to pick them but football isn't always predictable. So I won't get too upbeat about today – or too down about next week if it doesn't go as well.

I said recentl that I'm learning every day as a tipster – even after more than 20 years – and the comments from people who regularly put up winners help concentrate my mind. So I'm feeling confident going into the new season and hopefully there will be money to be made most weeks.

As I said the Super Single was beaten on Saturday but I've had my Sunday pick in my head for a quite a while. I just can't resist Motherwell at a Hibs side who have plenty to prove after suffering Scotland's heaviest defeat in Europe.

Hibs went down 9-0 on aggregate after losing 7-0 at home to Malmo – and that night I checked their first fixture and swore I'd been backing against them.

Pat Fenlon's made a couple of signings since then but I just don't see where the goals are coming from with Leigh Griffiths gone.

Motherwell were also disappointing in Europe but not humiliated as they crashed 2-0 to decent Russian outfit Kuban at Fir Park on Thursday.

Boss Stuart McCall should realise they're out of Europe now and concentrate fully on making a winning start in the Premiership.

He has also lost a proven scorer in Michael Higdon as well as Henrik Ojamaa and Nicky Law but crucially he's retained James McFadden who is always capable of a moment of magic and goals can come from him and John Sutton.

Former Celtic captain Stephen McManus comes into central defence and the ex-Ross County pair of Paul Lawson and Ian Vigurs are good additions.

So for me Motherwell look the better team and are in a better place so back them at a biggest 6-4 with William Hill. I'll post a Sunday top treble later.

Super Single

(6-4, William Hill)

Brilliant stuff, i didn’t do all your homes but still had a nice treble and have had some of your recent super singles.

Was dreading you picking St.Johnstone as the super single as im a jambo, any thoughts on that game? I quite fancy us to get the upset and i’ll also be on Motherwell tomorrow! Hopefully have the gap down to 9 points after next weeks derby (yes i’m dreaming!)

    Cheers!

Andrew, I’d have been all over St Johnstone if it wasn’t for their European run. Had a pretty gruelling trip to Minsk last Thursday and having won will be looking at the second leg unlike Motherwell who have to accept they’re out. Hearts’ strongest side isn’t too bad, their problems will come if more players leave and when they have injuries and suspensions. Starting with -15 points and a transfer ban is tough but if they adopt a siege mentality they’re likely to compete pretty well at the moment. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hearts got a point but Saints have been impressive in Europe so far.

Dundee dodd, cheers for that. Needing no more than one goal now at PSG-Bordeaux to make it an even better day.

A great day for visitors of this site today, well done to Mr F who put up some belters on the unpredictable first day of the season. As well as your treble I added the three newly relegated Prem teams to them as an extra £5 acca and that paid £221, did £10 on your homes acca and had £5 on your bonkers bet also. Like you say it won’t be like this week in week out, but a great start nevertheless.

Very unlucky on the PSG u2.5 bet, had my doubts when Bordeaux took the lead but the 95th min was a bit harsh.

Hoping Motherwell do the business tomorrow, cheers for today.

coldasice, yoy have to take the good days and the bad days. I could lose £50 a week for the rest of the season and still be level so it’s been a good day.

I doubt you’ll lose £50 p/w for the rest of the season but for the benefit of your regulars please don’t! Normally keep my stakes fairly reserved at around the £70 mark per card, with lots of different bets as well as a few covers. Had a very good close season and hoping the new one stays like exactly like today.

Chris, probably neither. Reckon I’ll go for the Motherwell win. Either of them could score first.

To lose that amount and still be level then today must have been alot more than just a good day…lol i’m thinking of a small double on Malmo and Motherwell to score 3 or more each but maybe that’s asking too much of Motherwell

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

John, Malmo have scored 5, 2, 3, 3 and 3 on their last five visits to Halmstads but they could be a little jaded after their Europa League exploits. Motherwell should win and Hibs defence is obviously low on confidence but they have lost Higdon and Ojamaa.

Chris, not sure if I see anyone scoring two. I was thinking maybe 2-0 Well for a correct score. But you do much more first scorer betting than me.

@Mr Fix what’s your take on the Rubin Kazan vs Cska
    Moscow game

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Edi, both have started fairly well and of course I had Rubin on my European treble last week. It’s not an easy one to call and while Rubin have a good home record it could be a draw. But for me it’s a no bet.

    • Avatar of The UHT
      The UHT 12 years ago

I was just coming back to make exactly the same observation. Both teams won 2-0 at home last season. Rubin had the better of it in 2011-2012 when they played each other twice 2 wins Rubin, 1 win CSKA, 1 draw. You have to go to 2010 for CSKA’s last away win at Rubin.

Last season Rubin were rock solid at home – 3rd best record, while CSKA were top away side, but away record just short of Rubin at home.

Both teams have started the season well. They’ve both beaten Zenit at home this season: CSKA 3-0 and Rubin 2-1.

Rubin have had a European game against Randers this week away, but they won it, so, extra wear on the legs, but great for team morale.

The games are not great for predicting a goalfest either – about half and half on Over 2.5!

It’s exactly as Mr F says – best left.

Good start yesterday Paul,I had 4/5 if your homes left out Fleetwood as the 4 I chose originally were in there so that was good enough for me. It will be Derby and Motherwell today and then a great midweek coupon with the Carling Cup and European qualifiers. Great start and long may it continue

Hi Paul. Well done with yesterday’s selections. I too got a big coupon up but had to sweat it out with Celtic.

I echo your thoughts about today’s Super Single. I have watched Motherwell in pre-season and also attended Thursday Night’s game with Kuban Kraznador.

I’m not saying it will be easy but I would be very surprised if Motherwell don’t come away from Easter Road with all three points. I too have backed them at 6/4.

    Motherwel
    St johnston
Derby. Hope my luck stays in.
Think the bookies got a good bashin yesterday. Long may it continue.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Kkkboy, I’m not sure about the overs, probably depends on how Motherwell feel. If it goes the way I expect then Hibs won’t score or get one at the most. So if you think will score two or maybe three then go the overs. For me simply taking Motherwell to win is the better bet.

Jacko, thanks. Would have been disappointed with two Super Single losers this weekend. From the stats looks an even game but as I’ve said a few times I can’t see where Hibs goals are coming from. Three games – no goals so far.

    Lost £50 on John Sutton but put £30 on 1-0 @ 9/1, £10 on 2-0 @ 12/1 and £10 on 2-1 @ 9/1 so happy days £300 back from total of £100 bet.

    Hi MrF Good afternoon :D

Good call on super single. An early super single of the day comes in and I got bit relief having rest of the bets covered. I’m late on getting your trebles as I got nearly £10 less on both trebles. So far good day without loss. If any of the trebles comes in will get today’s profit.

Richard- Great call on Swiss match matey. Gutted missed your tip with really good odds ;) Hope 2nd tip @ 5pm comes in too.Good Luck.

    Cheers :D

Dee, first leg of treble up with Malmo, I’m pretty sure Standard Liege will win so Derby is the toughest one. Need a goal from Rapid Vienna for btts line but they’re a man down.

Cheers Mr.F for the reply, just feeling sorry for myself after a very poor weekend of paid for failed system tips. Did your BTTS treble yesterday though as your analysis seemed so thorough. So it proved, treble comfortably up. Great stuff, was beginning to lose hope. No one can expect 100% winners but have a lot of respect for someone who, not only must spend hours analysing data, but also has the balls to publish their reasoning for all to judge. Fair play to you.
