YOU always expect shocks in the Carling Cup – but surely Liverpool will stroll through a trip to Exeter.
Look at Tuesday night – Premier League new boys Norwich, Swansea, Sunderland and QPR all crashed out and I tipped three of them to lose.
But with no European football as a distraction, Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish must be targeting decent runs in the Carling Cup and FA Cup.
Liverpool will rest players but the ones they put out should still be strong enough to take care of a side struggling near the foot of League One.
Take Liverpool at 2-5 with bet365 and Betfred among others and consider them at 11-10 with Stan James minus one goal.
I also think whatever side Bolton send out will have too much for Macclesfield and they are
1-3 with Coral at the Reebok.
There are no prizes for guessing my top tip on the Peterborough v Middlesbrough match. These sides don't do unders so go over 3.5 goals at 6-4 with William Hill and take both teams to score at 1-2 with Stan James.
Peterborough looked awesome as they thumped Ipswich 7-1 at the weekend while Boro have won their last two 3-1.
Spotting the shocks is much tougher on Wednesday as I expect West Ham (4-11, Chandler) to see Aldershot at home and Bristol City (5-6, Chandler) should take care of a Swindon side in a bit of disarray after three successive defeats under Paolo di Canio.
If there is to be a surprise it could come from one of the Sheffield clubs.
At Ewood Park under-fire Blackburn take on Sheffield Wednesday. Rovers have started the season with two defeats while Wednesday picked up their first win of the campaign against Notts County at the weekend.
Wednesday are worth a look at 11-2 with Coral while Sheffield United are 8-1 at William Hill and Chandler to win at traditional slow starters Everton.
The Goodison side lost their only Premier League match at home to QPR while the Blades have started well and remain unbeaten.
Recommendations
Liverpool -1
(6-5, Stan James)
Peterboro v Middlesbro over 3.5 goals
(6-4, William Hill)
Sheffield Wednesday
(11-2, Coral)
Nice work with your selections last night. But be fair, you didn’t tip Shrewsbury. You tipped Swansea to go through safely. All the same, wish I’d been on MK Dons. What a price ! Well done Mr Fixit.
I tipped three out of four to go out from Norwich, QPR, Sunderland and Swansea. Have edited in Sunderland to correct the post. Thanks for pointing it out.
