Partick Thistle v Celtic
Betfred Cup. Kick-Off: Saturday 18th August, 12.30pm. Live on BT Sport 1.
BRENDAN RODGERS will be hoping to get the season back on track after going through his first real run of poor form since he took over back in May 2016. He tasted defeat in two consecutive games for the first time this week and his Celtic side have now won just 1 of the previous 5 games.
In defence Kristoffer Ajer should come back into the side in place of either Jack Hendry or Jozo Simunovic. Dedryck Boyata has been told to train with the youth team and has more than likely played his last game for the club. Leigh Griffiths will again lead the line. Odsonne Edouard still has a knock and Moussa Dembele is not fully fit yet.
Some fringe players may come in for some game time but I’d expect a near enough full-strength side.
Partick Thistle are still finding their feet this season after suffering the disappointment of relegation last season. They finished second in their Betfred Cup group behind fellow Championship side Ayr.
They then kicked off the Championship season with a 2-0 defeat to Ayr before picking up all three points at home to Falkirk. On Tuesday they thrashed Stranraer 5-0 in the Challenge Cup.
With not much value to be found in the goals markets I’m going down the corners route again which has been successful for me already this season. In last season's two trips to Firhill, Celtic finished with a corner count of 7 (v 3) and 11 (v 3).
