BARCELONA are difficult to oppose at the best of times so I'm on them to win the first leg of their Champions League tie at PSG despite what happened in the San Siro in the last round.

I've put up a separate Euro post so won't go into the reasoning again but Barca kick off my treble.

It's another big night in the Scottish First Division with Partick Thistle having the chance to storm seven points clear of Morton with just six games left.

The Jags, who have won eight games in a row, are a best 17-20 at Paddy Power and should pick up the points to put them in a strong position. Raith can't be dismissed totally though and are boosted by the signing of Dunfermline winger Joe Cardle.

In England best bets could be Bolton at home to Huddersfield while Peterborough can surprise off-form Middlesbrough. Dougie Freedman's men have lost successive away games to Charlton and Ipswich but before that won four in a row, including three 1-0s at home.

I also like the look of Brighton who are 5-6 with William Hill and bet365 at home to Charlton.

Peterborough are back in the bottom three despite being unbeaten in six and travel to a Boro side who have lost five out of six and now look unlikely to make the play-offs. Last time out Peterborough beat leaders Cardiff at home and have netted 18 in their last nine away games.

They are a biggest 11-4 with the likes of Ladbrokes and bet365 and at that price you could consider draw no bet or double chance.

My Super Single was a toss-up between Peterborough and I'm on Dumbarton but I'm siding with the Sons who travel to Hamilton for the second time in four days. It was 3-2 to Ian Murray's men at the weekend and they are 3-1 at William Hill to repeat the feat and make it four wins in a row.

All four meetings this season and have seen both score with a total of 19 goals and two sides to net again pays 4-7 at bet365 and Stan James.

Start the both teams to score treble with Hamilton v Dumbarton and add PSG v Barcelona. Although I'm on Barca to win they have conceded in 17 of their last 19 games in all competitions.

For the third pick go with Raith v Partick. After beating Morton at the weekend I don't think Rovers will make it easy for the leaders but Thistle are on a roll and can make it nine wins on the spin in a match where both are on target.

Elsewhere in the SFL there should be goals at Albion Rovers v Forfar (17 in three meetings this season) and Queen's Park v Stirling (11 in three meetings).

Brechin should bounce back from two defeats to champions Queen of the South by beating East Fife at home and Stirling, with one defeat in eight, are capable of shocking Queen's at Hampden and are 3-1 at William Hill and Coral to do so.

Not looked at the card today so about to do that. At the moment thinking I will leave the Champions League matches for in-play.

Going to have an early single on Albirex Niigata. They have a good competitive record against Tanjong Pagar and are strong at home. Small stakes though.

      HOME and AWAY DOUBLE
      ——————–

      Bayern Munich (HOME) @ 1.65
      Peterborough United (AWAY) @ 3.7

off to Germany for our first selection of the day – and Bayern Munich welcome Juventus to the Allianz Arena, desperate to make the most of their home advantage in this Champions League Quarter Final first leg.

Jupp Heynckes’ side are in rampant form ahead of this clash, with a 9-2 thrashing of Hamburg on Saturday showing just how lethal they are in the final third.

That makes just one loss in 14 home outings for the hosts – which suggests that their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the second leg of the last round was something of an anomaly.

The Bavarians have an otherwise stellar home record in this competition, and have lost only once in 12 encounters – which will have them high in confidence as they welcome the Bianconeri to Germany.

Antonio Conte’s side go into this one having won just two of their last four on the road – and will be keen to avoid a defeat which would pile the pressure on them ahead of their second leg tie in Rome.

And just three wins from their last nine on the road in this competition suggests that the visitors rely heavily on their home form to see them through, and I’m sure that Conte would snatch a draw without haste.

One clean sheet from their last four away from home indicates that Conte’s side have been known to struggle when faced with quality in the final third, and I reckon that Bayern will be keen to nudge themselves ahead in this tie whilst they have the opportunity on home soil.

      Bet 1: Bayern Munich (HOME) @ 1.65

Switching our attentions to slightly less glamourous climes now – and taking in action at the Riverside Stadium, as Middlesbrough entertain Peterborough United, looking to stop the rot which has seen them lose their last four outings.

Tony Mowbray’s side have spectacularly fallen out of the play-off picture after accumulating some poor results of late, and a 3-2 defeat to struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers was the latest in a line of underwhelming performances from the North East side.

The hosts have lost three of their last five in front of their own fans, and that now sees them six points outside the top six – and with any hope of securing promotion back to the top tier seemingly drifting away.

Visitors Peterborough on the other hand go into this clash buoyed by some impressive results of late – and will be keen to secure their third win on the bounce following victories over Blackpool and Cardiff in their last two outings.

Darren Ferguson’s side have lost just one of their last five away from London Road, and 10 goals scored in that time suggests that they have the quality in the final third to stun their opponents here.

The Posh sit second bottom of the table, just two points from safety, and a win here could propel them out of the drop zone – which could be a prospect too good to miss for the visitors.

      Bet 2: Peterborough United (AWAY) @ 3.7

      LAY FOR THE SCOTS
      ——————

Hamilton have slipped to eighth in the table after picking up just two wins from their last 10 matches. By a quirk of the fixtures, they played Dumbarton at home on Saturday and lost 3-2. Gary Fisher was sent off for The Accies in the first half which didn’t help, but they were already 1-0 down.

That loss was their second in a row at New Douglas Park and while they have a three point gap and two games in hand over Cowdenbeath behind them, they aren’t quite safe yet. Billy Reid will be looking for a vital victory tonight as they would move up to seventh, but I’m not too confident about their chances and certainly not at odds-on.

Dumbarton were promoted to this division via the play-offs and after a shocking start to their campaign – five points from a possible 39 – Ian Murray was appointed as player/manager. Results improved straightaway and they are now seventh in the league with 33 points.

The Sons have won their last three on the trot, scoring 11 goals in the process. They produced a magnificent comeback at Dunfermline and at home to Raith, before despatching Hamilton last time. They’ve lost just three of their previous 11 on the road, winning seven of them and firing in goals for fun.

I simply can’t have Hamilton at around the 1.95 mark given Dumbarton’s away form, and that’s why I have to make them my lay of the day.

Paris Saint- Germain v Barcelona, Tuesday 19:45, ITV

Paris St-Germain are unbeaten at home in their last 23 games in European competition, qualifiers included (15 wins, 8 draws). Their last defeat dates back to 23 November 2006 in the group phase of the UEFA Cup, against Hapoel Tel-Aviv (2-4)
Barcelona can ill afford a repeat of the first-leg lethargy which could so easily have cost them the tie against AC Milan as they travel to Paris. This PSG outfit are formidable at the Parc des Princes – unbeaten in their last 13, winning 11 – and, after triumphing 2-1 at Valencia to set up this clash, may not be as forgiving as the Rossoneri in the second leg. Barca have actually only won three of their last 14 knockout away ties in the competition.

Recommended Bet: Paris St-Germain to win @ 4.9

Ezequiel Lavezzi has scored five goals in his last four Champions League games. He’s Paris St-Germain’s top scorer in the competition this season
PSG’s Argentine ace has proved just what a top-class acquisition he has been for the Parisians during this Champions League campaign. Lavezzi bagged himself goals in both legs of their round-of-16 clash with Valencia, helping the French team make the quarter-finals, and was also the match-winner at home to Porto in the group stage. The stats suggest that there’s no better PSG player to stake your money on than the ex-Napoli star to get on the scoresheet.

Recommended Bet: Back Ezequiel Lavezzi to score @ 5.0

Livingston at home to falkirk look good value for a win at around evens with falkirk missing top scorer Lyle Taylor through suspension and Blair Alston won’t be risked apparently.

Watched falkirk 3 times against my team this season and they will definitely struggle without taylor as would hamilton without Stevie May.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Kevin, I’d worry about Falkirk without Taylor as he’s been scoring most of their goals recently. But then Livi were poor at the weekend so might be a draw.

I’m not sure whether I’m just seeing things but 1.75 (BetVictor) for Brechin, who has an impressive home record of 9 wins and three losses in their 12 league home homes, against an East Fife outfit that have a fairly dismal away record of just 3 wins, 3 draws and 9 losses. They are as short as 1.53 with some bookmakers.

I understand that East Fife have a very good record against Brechin, recording 4 wins out of the last 5 meetings at Glebe Park, and of course Brechin have lost their last two games, both to league leaders QoS, but surely this is a game you would fancy Brechin to bounce back.

Does anyone know if the game is actually on? I understand their was a pitch inspection at 13:30 – will have to look that up.

  7. Eddie 11 years ago

    Brechins game wil be on
They have been playing the home games at Forfar recently which has an Astro turf pitch
If the play it in Brechin the pitch will still be very heavy

hmm .. I am not sure on Peterborough beating Boro tonight … yes Boro are on a bit of a losing streak at the mo but surely that means a win is due … Last 5 meeting between these to comes out with Boro have won 3 and the other two were 1-1 draws … I wouldn’t be too sure on backing Peterbourough, they are near the bottom for a reason

    • Guido 11 years ago

AC was thinking that aboot P’boro masel….?? dont like thse “Watford” type everyone jumoin on tghe bandwagon…league table doest lie at this stage of season…but??…

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

AC, don’t think anyone’s saying Peterborough are a cert but I certainly don’t want to be on Middlesbrough at the moment. If they fall behind I’m sure the atmosphere will turn ugly so the first goal could be crucial.

  11. AC 11 years ago

Guido I have the same double my man … Jupiter Rex and Elusive Hawk … Lets hope it comes in for us

haha Mr F can finally shake his poms poms for Milesey … Yeah I am quietly confident on this double and have just seen Milesey has tipped them up as well so looks like we are all thinking on the same page … plus i want some money for later, can’t decide on sticking it all on Bayern Munich or over 2.5 goals in the Watford v Hull game … Happy bday btw,

‘Brechin defender Gerry McLauchlan sits out a second game through suspension as Ray McKinnon’s side return to Glebe Park to face East Fife.

After playing two fixtures at Forfar’s Station Park, McKinnon is looking for home comforts against the Fifers.

Ewan Moyes will be absent for a second game due to an ankle injury, with Craig Molloy (knee) and Jonathan Brown (ankle) missing as well.’

Well that isn’t good news, three defenders out. I read that they have bought in a couple of youngsters from St Johnstone and Dundee Utd, one of which is a defender and the other an attacking midfielder.

Can see the 2 german and 2 big spannish in the semi finals. For them to win first leg games 13to2. Got to be a good bet. For me the only hard game is dortmund at malaga! The rest should win!

Im doing something slightly different with my Super Single, Im just double checking my research is correct and I’ll put it up in due course. Champions League returns tonight and in Germany we get too see the joint best attack (with Real Madrid) Bayern take on the best defence in the competiton in Juventus, Im ruling out an away win so its a toss up between an Home win or Draw in my eyes. I think Juve will do well to keep Bayern at bay for 90 mins and Bayern are flying at the moment after putting 9 past Hamburg last time out.

Ben H, is that on the coupon? They were 3-1 when I checked online yesterday and that was the price I quoted in the Daily Record today. Im doing something slightly different tonight. Betvictor are doing a whole range of weird and wonderful specials regarding Messi, and one in particular I like is Messi to score in the second half. Having gone back through this seasons results, Messi has scored 28 of his 52 goals IN the second half. I think it could be worth a punt tonight.

  24. Carl D 11 years ago

Lustenau are on a few coupond but if not most highstreet bookies can do it at the counter. They are 4/5 at hill and although both teams are not in good form Lust are 2nd in the table with a 6-2-3 away record, Linz a 1-4-7 home record.

Should beat them and got 3 brazilians in the side including the leagues to scorer Thiago.

  25. Greg Browning 11 years ago

The chief, fingers crossed for you! :)

Just wanted to point out that 28 out 52 is only just over half (54%) so there’s equally a chance of him scoring in the first half!

could’t remember who flagged it up but got on stirling 1.5 at 13/8

    nice one

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Garry, not a lot of goals about too. Brechin have scored the same as the teams in the Champions League, Championship and Scots Div One put together.

Partick thistle down to 10 men 4/1 in play worth a punt or Raith 13/8

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Stephen it could be a tough last 20 for Thistle.

  61. dean 11 years ago

Unfortunately, I couldn’t contribute tonight by putting up my bets due to a hectic last minute rush to get my bets placed in time.

I’ve backed Brechin at home along with Belgian Second Division side Woluwe to beat Oudenaarde at home in a double, which is my main bet before the weekends football. At halftime, I think I can breathe a sigh of relief as Brechin are 5-0 up. Hoping Woluwe can do the business tomorrow night. If you’re not too familiar with Woluwe and I’m sure many aren’t, they have won 10, drawn 2 and have lost just 2 at home this season and they look to continue this form when they take on an Oudenaarde side who have lost 11 of their last 12 games.

I would’ve expected Woluwe to be priced at around 4/7, which can be taken at William Hill but Bet365 and Betfair are currently at 8/11 which is a cracking price and I would advise anyone who likes a bet with real value to take a look at it

    • Guido 11 years ago

      Dean, whens Woluwe playing?

    • james mccann 11 years ago

if barca hold on here i might stick half my winnings on woluwe.

  77. Guido 11 years ago

Think they have more than proved they r the best team in the world over the last 6/7 years Milesey…the European Cup wins are testimony to that. You fair changed yer tune about the French??

    • Milesey 11 years ago

When i put a LAY in at 1.1 i don’t care if the team are French, German, Italian, or African to be honest with you ;) ;)

      Milesey

    • Guido 11 years ago

      hahaha :-) I guess not…even if they were a Scottish team??? :-)

  78. Greg Browning 11 years ago

No probs Garry, glad you got on it! :)

Stirling Albion over 1.5 and opted for Stirling Albion double chance too at 5/6 instead of them to win, just as well!

Hard luck stories with my other lines!

Only 3 goals in the Forfar game and bloody Brighton, let me down for 4 teams and a daft 7 team over 2.5 line!

  79. bttsfootballtips 11 years ago

Barca look ordinary without messi, bayern the best team in Europe,so strong in every position

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

btts, they always do. Barca have great players but always miss Messi. Having said that they conceded an offside goal and a soft second one.

  80. james mccann 11 years ago

milesey is better sticking to the horses.

  81. dean 11 years ago

I had a four fold of PSG v Barcelona over 2.5, Hamilton v Dumbarton BTTS, Brechin v East Fife over 2.5 and Albion v Forfar over 2.5 but Bet365 would take my bet for some reason. I tried to put it on after going on the inplay market because at the time, games got underway, I couldn’t find a couple of the Scottish games so I gave up. Feel a bit annoyed that it came in. Dumbarton’s collapse at the end was a bit of a bummer, had them Draw no bet. I was on Peterbrough. Very surprised it finished goalless, 27 shots in that game

At least I wasn’t on Barca. Got to feel for those who backed them

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Dean, a lot of the bookies missed out Hamilton v Dumbarton. Don’t know if they were confused by the fact the same fixture was played last weekend.

  82. ttony h 11 years ago

Milesey your just a halfwit talking crap

    • Milesey 11 years ago

….. you must have watched the game with your guide dog for PSG deserved the draw !

      Milesey

  83. Guido 11 years ago

Milesey is not a fan of the way FC Barcelona approach and play the great game!!.. like his women, he prefers it ruff n ready, up n atom!..Vinnie Jones and Wimbledon are the benchmark!! ;-)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

You only watch Barcelona for it must be better then watching the drivel you are subject to North of the Border ;) ;) Of cause no scottish team will ever be the best team in Europe, so i guess you have to jump on someones band wagon and if it isn’t ANUS, then it’s BARCA !

      Milesey

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Milesey, not true. I’d rather watch Bankies than Barcelona. And you’ve got a cheek slagging Scottish football when it’s a struggle to name a handful of top-class English-born players. Take away all the foreigners financed by Sky TV and your top league would be rubbish.

    • Guido 11 years ago

Like fine wine or women (eg “Hart of Dixie” star Rachel Bilson over horsey Amanda Hart anyday!!) I appreciate the finer things that are easy on the eye!..FCB come into that category, AC Milan in late 80s/early 90s as well..similary Maradona falls into that category..na wasthe best palyer by miles, skill, speed, drive, determination, influence, leadership…no question! In boxing Sugar ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali in the 1960s was the greatest ever athlete in my mind..those types/the ones that make it look easy and pretty – have to be admired in my book..itxs entertainment after all :-)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

Your easily entertained, a man in a kilt playing bagpipes entertains you ;) ;)

      Milesey

    • Bryan 11 years ago

Hey, lay off the tartan trannies, Milesey. ;-)

    • Sean Ireland 11 years ago

Cant comment on what passes for entertainment in Scotland but im with miesey in his admiration for watching men dancing about in schoolgirls knee length socks, bells round their ankles and waving their hankies to rapturous applause, now thats entertainment :)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

hahahaha, and if they bang some sticks together and shout then all the better. but at least they normally do it in a pub car park ;) ;)

      Milesey

    • Sean Ireland 11 years ago

All the nations in these isles have their quaint differances and customs but they all love a wee drink, sport and a sense of fair play, sense of humour and a longing to get a spin in delboys van..its what makes us great :)

    • Guido 11 years ago

Sean sums up nicely the great British psyche!! :-)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

oh sh*t, i just gave away your birthday treat, Mr F was going to come round in his Kilt with his bagpipes playing ” Mull of Kintyre ” be a happy birthday for you if it’s a windy night ;) ;)

      Milesey

    • Guido 11 years ago

I knew of two of the greatest bagpipe players ever to draw breath..John D Burgess and Alasdair Gillies..if u ever saw or heard them play you wouldnt be anything other than impressed..anyone with world class levels of skill has to be admired. Mull of Kintye is unfortunately schmaltzy pop drivel written by an Englishman who basked in the dream of being Scottish!!! ;-)

  84. alex walker 11 years ago

Milesey what football team have you been watchin that are better than barca in the last 5yrs. Get a grip man! They are magic to watch!

    • MUZZA 11 years ago

Better than watching Drivverpool that’s for sure……..

  85. Garry 11 years ago

    Mr F

Maybe not many goals about tonight but earlier just for £5

took 3 swedish u21 games for over 3.5 goals

resulted in 0-5..1-4…9-0 just scraped home………HA!

btw palmeiras the corner specialists are up later in libc

  86. Milesey 11 years ago

To be honest winning the champions league / European cup 4 times is some record, Liverpool have won it 5 times, AC Milan 7 times, AND REAL MADRID 9 times, and i’m on them to make it 10 times. So to be honest when looking over a longer period of time, REAL MADRID are by far the best team in EUROPE !

    Milesey

    • Guido 11 years ago

Milesey, I respect ur opinion, and agree with all your stats. Some older fellas still rave abouthe European Cup final at Hampden in 19560 btween RM and Eintrach t 7-3 it finished as being the best ever match/team?? Dunno, if everyone that claimed to have been there were there the crown widda been 1/2 million instead of 130K or whatever. Mr F’s was young reporter with the Clydebank Post and covered the match so maybe he can recall/have better informaton..tho his memories will be in black n white!:-) Cant compared generations unfortunately..when RM won it upteen times at the start there were only a handful of clubs involved and they had shitloads of money and bought Puskas, D Stefano etc/forfront of recent buying powers for MC/Chelsae. Id say CL is mujch tougher to win in last 10 years..so FCB’s success and they way they do it in such a competitive era is highly impressive..tho thy are not unbeatable. In a horse racing sense I recall wayching Arazi live in that incredible performance one Saturday evening in 1991 and never seen anything like it not since and also Dancing Brave with his versatility/speed.diffent distances, terrain competed all over etc was the best racehorse and think his rating confirms that..but again, different era…ud prob say Frankel but I didnt think he was versatile enough tpo suggest he was the best and didnt race abroad?? I like that Animal Kingdom cos he goes places and takes the best on with success…I’m no great expert on horse racing (notr much else)dont follow that closely, but just say what i see with these here peepers :-)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

“”Mr F’s was young reporter for Clydebank post “”

Mr Fixit was probably still in North Korea at this time, i didn’t think he came over till about 2005 ?

      Milesey

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Milesey, can’t beat the bagpipes by the way. Love it when there’s a big game and the teams are piped on. Started on the Clydebank Post as “a young reporter” in 1986 then went back to North Korea for a few years and returned to the Post as editor in 1990 before going to the Record as Performance Predictions Director, the job Rangers want to me do now in case anyone missed that.

  87. bixie 11 years ago

the 00 in scotland ruined that overs acc
and was on bayern -1, psg barca over 4.5, damn it!!
free titanbet money finally credited and promptly given right back to them on those two bets plus another woefully wrong!
sticking to weekend betting only now i think!

    • Milesey 11 years ago

There is a simple rule you should follow :

      NEVER BET ON SCOTTISH FOOTBALL

it’s so unpredictably sh*t that it will bust your coupon everyday, just look at the weekend results, rangers 0-0, celtic 1-1, who predicted them results ?

      Milesey

  88. Guido 11 years ago

Milsey I think, underneath it all, u have a notion for all things Scottish…should come up and smell the floo’ers and find out what a great country it is!! Come up with Muzz he’ll keep ya right :-)

    • Milesey 11 years ago

Anyway Guido, i’m off, i’ll let you get back to your PARTY with Mr Fixit ;) ;)

  89. Striker 11 years ago

Glad i got on the hamilton/dumbarton btts pre-kick off, was planning to do it in-play in the hope odds go up a bit but had to go out so thought I’ll put it on beforehand as i might not get a chance. Looked at it at 9 and couldn’t see it in bet365, and they normally do most games no matter how obscure around the world! AC, hope you got on.

  90. Greg Browning 11 years ago

Garry, cheers for the reminder about Palmerias!

10/11 for over 10 which I’m a bit surprised about! They are usually that price over 14

17 in their last match so here’s for more of the same

Gone for over 2.5 at 21/20 too! Good luck :)

    • Bryan 11 years ago

Greg, you can get EVENS for over 10.5 corners with Bet365. I’ve put some money on that. The price seems better than usual, which may have something to do with Palmeiras having a number of players out.

  91. Guido 11 years ago

Ya on holidays?? tho u were at Aintree? ya doing stuff with yer wee lad, wife/burd?

  94. Tony 11 years ago

Brechin? Or Stevenage? To hard to call

    • Milesey 11 years ago

BRECHIN a team who have been around since 1906, or STEVENAGE a team that have been around since 1980 and are in English League 1, thats some going for a team who have only been around for 33 years and have an average home crowd of 2500.

      Milesey

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Milesey, Brechin have a hedge on side of their ground. Betcha Stevenage don’t have one.

    • Bryan 11 years ago

Stevenage have actually been around since 1976, Milesey.

AFC Wimbledon have only been around since 2002 and they’re already in League Two so it’s far from a miracle.

      ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
