Theres a horse running in the second last at punchestown tomorrow called gunner mcgregor, i noticed it was due to run a couple of weeks back in a bumper and was heavily backed that day but was withdrawn, opened at 100/1 into 33/1 with pp, maybe worth a few shilling ew ?

  4. the notorious 2 years ago

John, Im not sure if you have been following much of the Australian racing news but highly controversial and 40 time group 1 winning jockey Danny Nikolic is in the news again. Nikolic has had some of the worst allegations that can be made against a jockey.
Accusations of involvement with others (said to members of criminal underworld) to conspire in several group 1 races to influence the outcome of the race/s for his and/or others financial gain.
Not sure whether there was ever solid basis of these allegations.

Nikolic is currently banned for allegedly threatening racing Victoria chief Terry Bailey and family at a racetrack in Sept 2012.
However worse still is him been accused of firing shots through Terry Baileys home early last year, the entire family at home at the time.
The word at the time was that Terry Bailey, during the course of his work had stumbled across certain names and individuals and there role in alleged corruption in Australian racing. These figures would certainly appear, at face value, to be more the more likely suspects.

gibbo where are you getting 7/4 for faintly looking now on oddschecker best price anywhere is 6/5 11/10 most bookies

    • gibbo 2 years ago

I took the odds last night on PP boz, usually do my main bets the night before as PP has best price guaranteed.
Think it’s around 5/4 on there now tho

surely you got the price up at time of posting as nobody else can now get that price

would not be right to claim a 7/4 winner when no one can get the price

not being awkward just makes sense

        good luck

            • gibbo 2 years ago

It must have come across wrong yesterday. What I meant was that I looked at a few but didn’t back them and so I didn’t post them up.
Last night I posted a couple of doubles which I did back, but nothing in the day.

Palmer hope attracts ‘eye-catching’ support in Guineas

Punters seeking value in tomorrow’s Newmarket 2,000 Guineas have latched onto Galileo Gold which was the subject of “eye-catching money” for the first Classic of the season.

The Hugo Palmer-trained colt was one of 13 declared runners alongside red-hot favourite Air Force Blue from the Aidan O’Brien yard.

After landing the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, Galileo Gold ended last season with a highly-creditable third to Ultra in the Group One Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp.

William Hill cut Frankie Dettori’s mount to 12/1 from 25/1, before taking further evasive action at 10/1. Spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said: “Frankie Dettori and Hugo Palmer both seem confident in Galileo Gold and punters have paid attention and lumped on”

  21. the notorious 2 years ago

John, I’m not sure if you read my comment yesterday. Willie Mullins says Douvan has all the attributes needed to be a Gold Cup horse, so with this in mind I just cannot see Annie Power running also.
Of course Rich Ricci is liable to do anything as we seen at Cheltenham

    • Johnb 2 years ago

I would be surprised if Douvan went for the Gold Cup as next year he looks nailed on to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase

  22. peter daryll 2 years ago

John b , what do you think annie power will run in at cheltenham ? If she’s up against thistle crackle , who would you prefer on what we’ve seen so far ?

    • Johnb 2 years ago

Hard to say, I hope the Gold Cup but it’s hard to say who would be better in the Gold Cup till we see them chasing
Thistlecrack would be better than Annie Power in the World hurdle but not a lot between them
Annie Power would be better in the Champion Hurdle, if you take into account ground conditions then Annie Power is the best Champion Hurdle winner ever and by a big margin
She was 3 seconds quicker than Istanraq and she won on worse ground
Also she was nearly 6 seconds quicker than Faugheen last year and again Annie Power ran on worse ground
Admittedly Annie Power ran 23 yards less than those two but the conditions and time make her far superior
I hope Annie & Thistlecrack both go for the Gold Cup as it would be some race along with Bristol De Mai who will be a big improver next year
I see these three being streets ahead of anything else

      • Johnb 2 years ago

If I had to stick my neck out now to pick the Gold Cup winner then I would have to say Annie Power, she doesn’t get the credit she deserves which is all down to her connections holding her back
I feel strongly that she should have won either three champion hurdles or two champion hurdles and a Gold Cup by now

        • peter daryll 2 years ago

          Thanks very much johnB
Love your insight, Im a huge fan of annie power I love watching her race, looking forward to seeing what will be for her, I can’t wait for cheltenham next year it’s a great meet, will be all over your ante post

For a jockey I like and rate very highly Tom Marquand who will be a future champion jockey has sadly ridden a shocker on Lewisham who came late and fast but was given far too much to do over 5f
Lewisham didn’t win but clearly should have and crossed the line full of running but as I say “that’s racing”

  47. Johnb 2 years ago

Not an excuse it’s there for all to see unless of you know nothing about racing and can’t tell the difference between a horse running badly and a horse being unlucky
I was actually surprised the horse made up as much ground as he did which in my opinion makes it a good run by the horse with positives to take out of the race

    • word2mother 2 years ago

Pendleton makes the impossible dream come true

Victoria Pendleton the Olympic champion who switched saddles from track cycling to National Hunt racing is the Sporting Hero of the Month for March

If you have ever sat on a horse, a pony or even a donkey on the beach and thought about whether, a year later, you might be competent enough to ride in a 24-runner race at the Cheltenham Festival, you would probably think it an impossible challenge and a fanciful idea.

Even people who have ridden all their lives might think that a step too far a year after joining a racing yard full-time.

So, after a first sporting career in track cycling that yielded two Olympic gold medals, it was an outstanding achievement, rightly hailed by the jump-racing community, for Victoria Pendleton not only to get round but to finish just two and three-quarter lengths behind the winner, On the Fringe, in the St James’s Place Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham.

“You can get the best advice in the world but it takes a very special, focused and cool athlete to pull it all together on the big day”
Riding Pacha Du Polder, with whom I hope she shares this award because he provided her with what is termed within the sport an ‘‘armchair’’ ride, she finished fifth without so much as a wobble.

Not only did Pendleton achieve this so soon after first sitting on a racehorse, but she did it at an age, 35, when most professional jump jockeys are planning for retirement.

Nor has her career change been plain sailing – she had her first ride in a charity flat race at Newbury, fell in a flat race, fell off Pacha Du Polder at Fakenham, rode her first winner on him at Wincanton a fortnight later, then thrilled the racing fraternity at Cheltenham.

Of course, she had some fantastic advisers including Alan and Lawney Hill, for whom she rode out every day, Great Britain’s three-day event coach Yogi Breisner, Pacha Du Polder’s trainer Paul Nicholls and record-breaking former jockey Tony McCoy.

You can get the best advice in the world but it takes a very special, focused and cool athlete to pull it all together on the big day. I do not know any other nonequestrian Olympian who might have pulled it off.

Racing feared that her involvement and the media attention it received might overshadow the Gold Cup. It did not – it enhanced it and shone a new light on the sport.

    • the notorious 2 years ago

Lets hope she competes at cheltenham next year minus the £200k which she doesnt need.

      • Johnb 2 years ago

Not trying to claim credit or anything, i got into horses in late january, i am hesitant to tip on here and lower the calibre, i sat in a bookies for two months betting and watching every race, i think a lot of the horses i saw are doing well currently, anyway i discovered this place and read it every day since feb, despite massive swings due to my own nature, my juices are flowing, shame i cant get to Newmarket, it isnt that far. Hopefully you see this, look forward to finding us winners.

Czech it Out 2.50 Good 12/1
