Next Southampton manager odds

Southampton have parted ways with Russell Martin following the club's 5-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday night and the hunt is now on to find someone capable of pulling off a great escape.

The Saints are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table after picking up just five points from their first 16 matches of the season.

As a result, time is of the essence and the board won't want to wait too long before making an appointment otherwise the season could be dead and buried by the time the man gets his feet through the door.

Who is in line to become the next Southampton manager? Here are the latest odds.

There are few surprising names on this list, none more so than former England manager, Gareth Southgate, who just a few weeks ago said he wouldn't be taking another head coach role for at least another year. It feels unlikely that joining a club seemingly doomed for relegation would force him to have a rethink.

Another interesting name on the list is Ralph Hassenhuttl. The Austrian did a good job at St Mary's Stadium during his first stint at the club and is now plying his trade with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Given that he currently has the German club in midtable, a homecoming feels a long shot at this point.

Current favourites

Kasper Hjulmand – 1/1

Kasper Hjulmand has emerged as the favourite to be the next Southampton manager with his odds tumbling from 12/1 to 1/1 over the course of a few hours on Monday afternoon. Hjulmand is best known for the job he did with the Denmark national team and has been out of work since resigning from that role in the summer.

Interestingly, Hjulmand is also on the radar of other Premier League clubs and is reportedly in the race to become the next West Ham manager. However, with Julen Lopetegui still clinging on to his job at the London Stadium, the Dane could be tempted by a move to Southampton.

Danny Rohl – 7/4

Sheffield Wednesday manager, Danny Rohl, opened up as the favourite to become the next Saints boss but he has since gone from being odds-on to 7/4 following the emergence of Hjulmand as a serious contender.

Rohl has done a brilliant job at Hillsborough and it does feel inevitable that he will get his chance to work in the Premier League in the coming years considering his age and style of football. However, whether jumping ship from a team chasing promotion to a team facing relegation makes sense remains to be seen.

Carlos Corberan – 4/1

Every time a Premier League manager loses his job, West Brom fans know that rumours are about to start about the future of their manager, Carlos Corberan. The Spaniard has been linked to several top-flight jobs over the past year and is also among the favourites to become the next Wolves manager.

Corberan's appeal is clear – he plays attractive football and has West Brom competing in the Championship despite having little to no money to spend and a relatively weak squad. With the Baggies stagnating, this is one that is worth keeping an eye on.

Andy is tipster who has been calling Golf tournaments for several years across many different platforms. He has covered all tournaments from the Asian Tour to the Masters.
