After three matchdays of the new UEFA Champions League season was wrapped up earlier this week, various betting markets saw movement.

One of these is for the player who delivers the most assists during this year's longer format competition.

Here are the favourites, and perhaps some wildcards in the latest Champions League top assister odds.

Odds-on favourites

During a narrow 1-0 away win against RB Leipzig, it was Mohamed Salah who provided the assist for Darwin Nunez’s goal, which moved the Egyptian onto two assists for the Champions League campaign so far.

This shortened his odds to 12/1, which drew him level in the bookies’ rankings with Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala. Musiala failed to make any impact for Bayern against Barcelona on Wednesday, as the German giants were humbled 4-1 thanks to a hattrick from Raphinha.

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal also stands at 12/1 to be the competition’s top assist provider, after getting his first of the 24/25 Champions League campaign to set up Raphinha for his opening goal on the night. With Barcelona searching for a top-eight spot in the new UCL format, their strong start should allow Yamal to kick on and offer good value at his current odds.

Outsider chances

Close behind are Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich, who all stand at 14/1. Kimmich has currently registered two assists already after being moved back into midfield by new manager Vincent Kompany, a chance which is clearly paying off for the side’s creativity.

De Bruyne has not managed an assist in the competition yet, having only played 45 minutes of Champions League football this season, those coming in the Citizens’ 0-0 draw with Inter Milan in September. Therefore, we would hold off taking a punt on De Bruyne for now, since Pep, as usual, appears to favour rotation during the early stages of the competition.

Vinicius is also yet to notch his first assist in the competition, but with a hattrick against Dortmund on Tuesday night, it would seem very unlikely that he will be enduring the same lack of minutes currently being experienced by De Bruyne.

Thus, 14/1 should provide good value for the Brazilian winger, as he has managed a full 90 minutes in all of Madrid’s three Champions League matches so far, and his red-hot form should bear fruit soon.

Overlooked Options

The most obviously overlooked option to be the competition’s top assister comes in the form of Real Madrid’s star summer signing, Kylian Mbappe.

The Frenchman has already got one assist in both the Champions League and La Liga this season, and with Real Madrid hotly anticipated to win the trophy, he could be an excellent choice at 25/1.

Other outside chances include Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann at 50/1, pacy Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong at 25/1 and Arsenal stalwart Bukayo Saka at 25/1.

All are likely to play a full 90 in their club’s Champions League fixtures, offering the best opportunity to notch assists. We believe now would be the best time to capitalise on lengthening odds.
