The big seeds are beginning to feature at the Shanghai Masters this week, and we have some sharp tennis betting tips to bring this Saturday. We’re picking one upset, where we expect a player to do what he did many months ago in Doha, while in our other tip, an in-form player will do what he does best—win matches.
Best tennis tips and predictions today
The first of today’s betting tips will feature Jakub Mensik upsetting Andrey Rublev, much like he did at the Qatar Open earlier this year. The other one has Carlos Alcaraz beating Jungcheng Shang fairly easily in two sets due to the conditions in China this year.
Mensik to beat Rublev @ 11/5
The last and only time these two played was earlier this year at the Qatar Open, and Mensik was able to win that one in two sets. We think it’s going to happen once again because he has the skill set to do so.
He has a powerful serve and a superb forehand that can do lots of damage in these types of conditions. Rublev is also not a player who can’t be beaten; he suffers defeats to weaker players relatively frequently, particularly this year.
Rublev hasn’t been in super form recently, and while he reached the final here last year, the conditions are much slower this year. We think that will happen again because the conditions will fit that.
Mensik might get lots of short balls, and he can push them with his forehand. We also think that his serve can frustrate Rublev quite a bit because he does struggle with great servers.
Overall, the odds are great, and there are some reasons why this makes perfect sense, so we’re going to back it. He beat him the last time they played, so he can certainly do it again.
Alcaraz vs Shang – under 20.5 games @ 5/6
The last time Alcaraz and Shang played was earlier this year at the Australian Open, and it was 6-1, 6-1 for Alcaraz when the Chinese player retired. Shang is a much better player right now, having recently won the Chengdu event, but even so, we don’t think the matchup is any more favourable for him.
Alcaraz is in superb form, winning the China Open recently, and he’s generally a tough player to beat. Shang doesn’t have a major weapon, but the weapons he does have usually function best in fast conditions.
That was the case in Shanghai last year, but it’s been slowed down a lot this year, and that will absolutely favour Alcaraz. He loves a good slow hard court, which his Indian Wells track record shows (two trophies).
We think this will be a pretty simple 6-4, 6-3-like performance from Alcaraz, which will slot under this line.
