After 11 rounds of action, the race to finish as the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive one.
With Kylian Mbappe no longer around to hoover up the prize on an annual basis, let's take a look at who the current frontrunners are to finish as the leading marksman in the French top-flight this term.
Best Ligue 1 top scorer odds
Bradley Barcola – 9/4
I’ve been banging the Bradley Barcola drum in this column pretty much all season but the bookmakers appear to have cottoned on. The French winger took his tally in Ligue 1 for the season to 10 with a double at Angers last time out, justifying my faith in him to find the back of the net.
With each of PSG’s next two games seeing them host bottom-half opposition, Barcola could well break away from the chasing pack.
Jonathan David – 11/4
Jonathan David has drifted out to second favourite for top goalscorer honours at 11/4. The Lille forward failed to extend his scoring streak in Ligue 1 to three matches against Nice last time out.
However, the Canadian ace has notched four times across Lille’s last three Champions League games, the most recent of which was against Juventus last midweek. The Lille talisman is expected to be in the top goalscorer running again come the end of the season, so now could be the time to get involved.
Mason Greenwood – 4/1
Mason Greenwood has rediscovered his shooting boots for Marseille in recent weeks. After failing to score in four successive matches, Greenwood ended his mini-goal drought by making the net bulge against Montpellier on matchday eight.
The former Manchester United man has since scored against both Nantes and Auxerre, meaning he now has eight Ligue 1 strikes to his name this term. Greenwood is currently the 4/1 third favourite to finish as the division’s top scorer.
Evann Guessand – 16/1
Evann Guessand's recent form in front of goal has seen him gatecrash the Ligue 1 top goalscorer conversation. The Nice forward has notched in three of his last three league games.
That goal haul has put him on six Ligue 1 strikes for the season. With two of Nice's next three Ligue 1 games at home, now could be the time to back Guessand at a generous price.
Our Ligue 1 top scorer prediction
The previous value available on the Barcola above to bag the top goalscorer award has now gone, making Jonathan David the next best thing at 11/4. The Lille ace has had course and distance form in this market in recent years and he is likely to be in the reckoning again this time around.
On top of this, David plans to leave Lille as a free agent at the end of the season, so he could be more motivated than ever to make his mark in front of goal with a view to drumming up even more interest for his signature next summer.
