Berrettini to Defeat Tabilo 2-1 @ 29/10
Italy’s Matteo Berrettini has been roaring back into form the past three months, and is back inside the world’s top 50 now after an extended injury hiatus. However, the big-hitter comes up against another in-form player in the second round of Kitzbuhel, with second seed Alejandro Tabilo lying in wait.
Tabilo had had the year of his life, cracking the top 20 after being well outside the top 100 this time 12 months ago. His rise came off the back of duel titles in Auckland and Mallorca, alongside deep runs at the Rome Masters and earlier in Santiago.
With his crushing topspin forehand, Tabilo is a tough challenge on clay. However, we rate the form of Berrettini, who historically backs up very well after winning titles. Given he just lifted the trophy in Gstaad, we say he’ll get through a tough three-setter here.
Musetti to Beat Trungelliti 2-0 @ 4/6
One match that we don’t expect will be quite so hard fought is between Lorenzo Musetti and qualifier Marco Trungelliti in Umag. Musetti is playing his first match since losing in the Wimbledon semi-finals. The Italian showed an excellent level to make his deepest ever run at a Grand Slam, and has had plenty of time to recover now.
Musetti will know that a Grand Slam semi-final is not job done, so he’ll be locked in against Trungelliti on Wednesday. Back him to outclass the Argentinian and race through this clash in straight sets, booking his place in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
