Player Form: Red-Hot Sinner
Anyone who has followed tennis at all this year will know that Sinner has been the man to beat. So far in 2024, he’s won four titles, including a maiden Grand Slam, a second Masters 1000 title, and two ATP 500s. He recently ascended to the No. 1 position in the ATP rankings, and has been by far the best player of the last six months.
Here at Wimbledon, he’s gone about his business efficiently. The Italian did drop sets in each of his opening two matches against Yannick Hanfmann and Matteo Berrettini, but most recently has locked in and defeated Miomir Kecmanovic and Ben Shelton in straight sets.
Medvedev hasn’t been quite as red-hot as Sinner, but has still had a solid year. He’s titleless, with two finals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells Masters.
So far this tournament, he’s been as expected for a No. 5 seed. His first three opponents–Aleksandr Kovasevic, Alexandre Muller and Jan-Lennard Struff–were all dispatched in three or four sets. In the last round, however, Medvedev got cut a break when No. 10 seed Grigor Dimitrov retired injured after just eight games.
How the Bookies View It: Sinner in Control
Bookmaker Betfred has Sinner a heavy favourite in this clash. The Italian is 2/9 to win, while Medvedev trails at 16/5. Set betting puts a Sinner 3-0 result at 11/8.
Recent Head-to-Head: Bizarre Turnaround
Interestingly, Medvedev leads this head-to-head 6-5. However, Sinner has won each of the last five matches between the two, including earlier this year at the Australian Open.

Medvedev came within a whisker of defeating Sinner in Melbourne this year by adopting some unconventional return patterns and a far more aggressive style of play. He ultimately fell short, in part because he’d had to play so many five-setters ahead of the final.
