It was place money returned on Rath Gaul Hill who finished second at Doncaster. He did return to form over the shorter trip but bumped into one who seemed a fair bit ahead f the handicapper, and I'll be interested in backing RGH next time out if getting similar conditions as I don't think he handicap mark will be adjusted and I believe he can pop up in a similar race.
Lingfield 2:15 – Walk In The Wild 6/1 (0.5pt EW, Bet365 3pl)
I put up Walk In The Wild at Fontwell last week but he was a NR due to the heavy ground, but I'm not having any of that as he has won on soft ground before and has handled that surface very well. It's interesting that they've come to Lingfield with him as he is 2/2 at the track and he is returning here off a decent handicap mark of 93.
We saw it recently with another Gary Moore runner, Movethechains, who came back to Lingfield off a reduced mark having recorded four wins at the track previously and off a low mark he managed to romp home in the National race at this venue, and I'm expecting a positive return to Lingfield for Walk In The Wild. He has been shaping much better than his recent form figures would suggest. He was 4th at Fontwell the time before last over the extended 2m 5f and he was in contention jumping the second last, but got extremely tired on the heavy ground over that longer trip when jumping the last and he was tailed off. I'm more than happy to excuse him for the run at Wincanton after and he has had a wind-op since that run in December. I've already mentioned that he has dropped to a mark of 93 which is 6lbs lower than when he last won a race which came at this venue (only two wins in his career have come here) and that came on soft ground over 2m, so the trip is no problem for him and based on that, he is well handicapped.
This race does look like a decent field for the grade with some unexposed chasers and some horses in decent form turning up. But my main concern is whether I've gone for the right Gary Moore horse. With Jamie and Josh Moore both being retired, I'm not sure which of his young jockeys has the pick of the rides, but I'd like to guess that Niall Houlihan does as he is the one who has ridden his claim out and he has been at Gary's for a longer time, and based on that then Walk In The Wild seems the pick of the two.
