Something a bit different today as we await the return of club football at the weekend; a look at some of the stats behind the start to the season, hopefully providing some pointers for goals bets this weekend.
Let's explore the breakdown of the most prolific teams, those conceding the most and which teams have been best for BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals so far across the top four divisions in England and Scotland.
Goals Scored
Swindon are the team to watch at the moment after netting a whopping 20 goals already this season. Close behind are Brighton who have made a great start to the season with 12 goals in their first four outings.
- Swindon – 20 goals in 6 matches (3.33 avg)
- Brighton – 12 goals in 4 matches (3.00 avg)
- Crewe – 17 goals in 6 matches (2.83 avg)
- Wrexham – 17 goals in 6 matches (2.83 avg)
- Norwich City – 14 goals in 5 matches (2.80 avg)
Goals Conceded
At the other end of the pitch poor Burnley are way out in front in terms of goals conceded after a tough start to life in the Premiership. Morton's leaky defence have conceded 3.67 goals per game and they face a trip to top of the table Dundee Utd this weekend.
- Burnley – 11 goals in 3 matches (3.67 avg)
- Morton – 11 goals in 4 matches (3.67 avg)
- Southampton – 12 goals in 5 matches (2.40 avg)
- Annan Athletic – 12 goals in 5 matches (2.40 avg)
- Sutton Utd – 16 goals in 7 matches (2.29 avg)
Total Goals Per Game
Wrexham matches have been the most entertaining so far yielding over 4.5 goals per game on average, largely thanks to scorelines like 5-3, 4-2 and 5-5!!
- Wrexham – 4.57 total goals per game
- Brighton – 4.50 total goals per game
- Swindon – 4.43 total goals per game
- Norwich City – 4.40 total goals per game
- Southampton – 4.40 total goals per game
- Queen of the South – 4.40 total goals per game
BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals
Nine teams boast a 100% record of both teams scoring, although you should note that teams in League One and League have played more games; Brighton, West Ham, Cardiff, Rotherham, Swansea, West Brom, Queen of the South, Partick Thistle, St Mirren.
Twelve teams have seen all their games go Over 2.5 Goals; Aston Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Luton, Cardiff, Rotherham, Norwich, Southampton, Newport, Morton, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South.
Best Leagues for Goals
The Scottish Championship trumps all leagues for goals. Over 2.5 goals in seven out of 10 games on average and both teams score in two thirds of matches. The Premier League isn't too far behind for entertainment.
Steer clear of League One for any kind of goals bet, BTTS and Over 2.5 land in less than half the matches in that division and you should definitely avoid Scottish League Two for Over 2.5 bets, only 32.00% have landed so far.
- Scottish Championship: BTTS – 66.67% | Over 2.5 – 71.43%
- Premier League: BTTS – 64.10% | Over 2.5 – 69.23%
- Championship: BTTS – 63.33% | Over 2.5 – 60.00%
- League Two: BTTS – 56.10 | Over 2.5 – 56.10%
- Scottish League Two: BTTS – 52.00% | Over 2.5 – 32.00%
- Scottish League One: BTTS – 48.00% | Over 2.5 – 60.00%
- Scottish Premiership: BTTS – 45.83% | Over 2.5 – 41.67%
- League One: BTTS – 39.19% | Over 2.5 – 44.59%
A few other goals related stats; Cheltenham have yet to score a goal after six games played, Dundee Utd have conceded just ince in four games and Portsmouth just twice in six. Stenhousemuir and Hamilton have kept clean sheets in 80% of their games so far.
Hopefully these stats can guide us to some winning goals bets at the weekend. If there's any other useful stats worth sharing please do so in the comments section below.

Swindon v Walsall Saturday 3 pm
Randomly came across a stat while studying tonight that Swindon have the 3rd worst XG-against for set pieces in the league. Looked at potential scorers from Walsall at big prices who were tall. Spotted Oisin McAntee, who is 6″3. He usually plays on the right side of centre half but it looks like he has been converted to a midfielder since last week. Headlines in the local Walsall paper seem to confirm he will be playing there from now on, watched video of manager after last week’s game and that seemed to confirm it also. He scored the winner and also got an assist in their win last weekend so every reason to believe he will be staying there. He has actually scored 3 goals in the last 8, scoring in the EFL trophy, the League Cup and last weeks winner against Salford.
From looking at the odds the bookies are pricing him as if he is still a defender. The other Walsall midfielders, Taylor Allen 18/1 and Ryan Stirk, who is more of a defensive midfielder from what I’ve seen, is 25/1. McAntee is a massive 33/1 to score first and 12/1 anytime which looks serious value especially considering he seems to be heavily involved in alot of their attacking play and also Swindon conceded 3 against Sutton last week. Sutton had only scored 2 goals in the their previous 5 games. Swindon have conceded 5 in their 3 games at home this season in the league.
Walsall have won back to back games and look like a side playing with alot of confidence. They thoroughly deserved their win against Salford last week. They have scored in every game in all competitions this season. Away from home their goals read 2,2,2,3,1. Every reason to think they can get at least 2 on Saturday. Priced up at 2/1 which looks very tempting. 7/1 for 3+.
McAntee’s height could be a real issue for Swindon and the odds are just too good to not have a go. Seems like the bookies have possibly not noticed his change in position. Wouldn’t be surprised if this price gets cut by Saturday.
Likely bets
Walsall over 1.5 team goals 2/1 ( main bet)
Walsall over 2.5 team goals 7/1
McAntee first goal 33/1
McAntee anytime 12/1
Will sort out staking plan on Saturday.
QOS lost most of there goals 4 v Alloa and 2 v Montrose in the first half when there centre half Efe Ambrose ex Hibs Celtic turned up late and gets benched until half time
Edinburgh City have played 10 and lost 10 this season

Comerciantes Unidos v Union Huaral
21:30
Peruvian Segunda Division 🇵🇪
Huaral to score EVENS.. NAP.. HILLS.
Unidos need 1 point in 3 games to win this section.
They don’t concede many at home and huaral don’t score many full stop.
Unidos not won in 4 as they crawl towards the finishing line which as odds of 1-8 suggest they should today.
Huaral have nothing to play for in reality
Reason for this bet is that it appears huaral have a habit of scoring against unidos as they have in all 12 previous encounters.

NFL Thursday Night
Eagles vs Vikings
We were very fortunate to win last week and should have lost against the Patriots. I do expect a better performance from us tonight but it’s going to be tough as we are definitely missing 3 starters but Fletcher Cox looks ok to play. We don’t really value the linebacker position and Nakobe Dean is out for tonight so it is going to leave a lot of space in the middle for the Vikings. I do expect Cousins will continue to target his tight end T.J. Hockenson just like he did last week with him catching 8 of 9 targets for 35 yards. The key for us will be trying to keep Jefferson quiet but that is no easy task. Hopefully we can get Goedert more involved this week but I expect most of our catches to be from the duo of Smith and Brown. I avoid betting on my own team but I do lean on us to cover the spread line which has now decreased from 7.5 down to 6. I do like some player props tonight which I will be playing.
