My main fancy Barg ran a complete stinker and it was an outsider at 10/1 who ended up winning after me assuming it was a 2 horse race. Im not sure what happened with Barg, he was sat in 3rd a little bit of the pace and when they quickened he found next to nothing of the bridle and quickly fell away.
I felt a bit hard done by with my each-way selection Baez. She did place 2nd at an advised price of 7/1 so it wasn't a losing selection as such but she was travelling better than anything into the final furlong or so but was eventually caught close to the line by the short-priced favourite who still looks ahead of the handicapper. Baez has definitely improved since the switch to Jim Goldie and she'll be winning races sooner rather than later.
I've 2 selections for tomorrow both of which come from Hamilton.
Roaring Legend 15/8 – 3:47 Hamilton
Right this minute this is my favourite horse in training. I've no idea why but sometimes you just get a soft spot for certain horses. I've had this one in my tracker ever since he ran on debut and he's been nothing short of consistent on each run.
I and Rizz have spoken about this horse, more so myself than Rizz as he told me to give up on him as he consistently placed without winning and to be perfectly honest it was absolutely doing my head in.
That being said I kept the faith and he repaid me last time out when winning with a bit in hand at Salisbury three weeks ago and a repeat of that performance could see him complete the double.
He wore cheekpieces on his previous run and I think that was the key to keeping him focused as previously he didn't do much wrong besides maybe not finding that little bit more in the final furlong to put a race to bed. Im not sure on what the ground conditions are at Hamilton and I didn't bother to look as I know Roaring Legend is versatile ground-wise anyway.
The main threat probably comes from Beraz who recently had a wind op and is open to being better than we've seen previously.
Flying Scotsman is also an interesting runner at the prices, recently switched to the Haslam yard from Joseph O'Brien. He did have some decent form on the flat but pretty much flopped when sent over hurdles.
James Watt 10/1 EW – 4:52 Hamilton
Not the most confident of selections I've ever put up but realistically this is scraping the bottom-of-the-barrel stuff in terms of quality and if James Watt can put it together he has every chance.
I couldn't put him up at the prices and he's worth a few quid each way at 10/1. If there's a well-handicapped horse in this race it's James Watt. He is a whopping 19lb below his last winning mark. The question mark surrounding him is his recent form figures. They hardly inspire much confidence. That being said when you are tipping in low-class stuff like this, I think 9 times out of 10 the form book goes out the window anyway.
He's versatile ground wise and If he can improve even a tad on recent performances I think he can play a part in the finish.
Good luck!
2:25 Brighton- river wharfe 7/1 e/w
2:05 Tipperary – Cayd Boy (I was waiting to see if this has had any money for it, cost me a bit so far so hope to get a return on my investments this time).
3:17 Hamilton – Fantastic Fox ( I dont think the cheekpieces will make him run slower).
3:57 Brighton – Gatwick Kitten (NAP)
