Scotland vs Georgia

, KO: 19:45 Jun 20, 2023, Hampden Park
Georgia

SCOTLAND are in dreamland after a senastional start to their Euro 2024 campaign and a packed Hampden will expect Steve Clarke's side to make it four wins out of four when Georgia visit Glasgow.

The Tartan Army will still be celebrating the dramatic late stages of their 2-1 win in Oslo where it looked like they were going to fall to an avoidable defeat against a bang-average Norway side who were handed a soft penalty whcih was converted by Erling Haaland.

But the Scots stunned the hosts by scoring two goals in as many minutes from Lyndon Dykes and sub Kenny McLean to clinch an unexpected win.

It woukd take a collapse of Devon Loch proportions for Scotland not to qualify for Germany now, but always remember…this is Scotland!

They now need to overcome a dangerous Georgian side who had some late drama of their own on Saturday when a goal from Zuriko Davitashvili gave them a 2-1 win in Cyprus.

However, they were a long way from their best and had to survive plenty of scares with the hosts hitting the woodwork.

Willy Sagnol's side are a team on the up though. Scotland should be warned they scored five goals in Bulgaria and three in North Macedonia in recent Nations League games.

How the bookies view it

Scotland are strong odds-on favourites and can be backed at 18/35 with 10bet and are generally around 1/2.

Georgia are underdogs at 13/2 with bet365 and the draw is 31/10 with McBookie.com.

Recent head to heads

The mere mention of Georgia is enough to blow the feathers of a Glengarry clean off any Tartan Army members because of two awful and important defeats in Tbilisi.

But the Scots have at least defeated the Georgians in two games at home – at Hampden in 2007 and Ibrox in 2014.

Players to watch

Lyndon Dykes gets his fair share of criticism but he is an integral member of the Scotland squad and works his socks off. The tattoed talisman is 7/4 to score anytime with Wiliam Hill.

All eyes will be on talented Napoli hero Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has been labelled the Georgian Maradona because of his exploits with Italian champions Napoli this season. Although he has scored 19 goals this term, he hasn't scored for 15 games for club and country. He is 9/2 to change that at Hampden with William Hill.

Anything else catch the eye?

Scotland have a golden chance to almost clinch qualification already and although they should have too much quality for the dark horses of Georgia, they may very well concede before eventually triumphing.

As stated, Georgia have plenty of goals in them even in their travels, but they could easily have lost a few to Cyprus the other night too. The value wager is a Scotland win and both teams to score at 31/10 with 10bet.

Scotland love a corner at Hampden and it's used as an important attacking weapon. Over 10.5 corners is as high as 14/5 with Paddy Power and we'll have some of that. You could play safe as low as over 8.5 corners which is still 10/11 with the same firm.

Given the effort Scotland put in Oslo and the baking conditions, it might take them some time to get going on Tuesday. Take a chance on the visitors scoring the opening goal at bet365 at 3/1…it's the Scotland way.
