Barcelona will aim to strengthen their grip at the top of the standings as they host Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.
After seeing off bitter rivals Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona will turn their attention to La Liga. They are currently three points clear at the top of the table and while there is still plenty of time for things to change, there is belief that the title might be heading to Camp Nou.
Barcelona claimed a 1-0 victory at Atletico Madrid in their previous La Liga fixture before easing past Ceuta 5-0 in a Copa Del Rey clash on Thursday with Robert Lewandowski netting a brace.
Camp Nou has been a fortress for Barcelona for much of the season and they are yet to taste defeat at home in La Liga. Although they were held to a 1-1 draw by Espanyol in their previous home fixture, Xavi’s men had won the previous six matches, keeping clean sheets in all six wins.
While Barcelona are attempting to strengthen their title quest, Getafe have a different battle on their hands as they look to avoid getting dragged into the relegation scrap. They have been on a steady decline in recent weeks and are now just one point above the bottom three.
Getafe travel to Camp Nou off the back of just one win in their last five La Liga matches. They have lost their last three matches across all competitions and suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Espanyol in their previous outing.
Things have also been quite rough on the road for Getafe, who have won just twice away from home all season. Quique Sanchez Flores’ men have lost their last two away matches and were beaten 2-1 at Sevilla last time out.
How the bookies view it
Barcelona are considered overwhelming favourites among the bookies with a home win priced at 2/11 with Coral. An unlikely victory for Getafe is valued at 20/1 by Coral while a draw is set at odds of 7/1 with bet365.
Head to head
Barcelona have a 27-4 advantage with seven draws from 38 previous matches against Getafe. The Catalans have also won the last four fixtures at Camp Nou, although they were held to a 0-0 draw at Getafe in the most recent meeting.
Players to watch
Barcelona’s defence has played a pivotal role in much of their success this season with Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen impressing at the back. They have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven home matches and could be set for a repeat at 8/15 with BoyleSports.
At the other end of the pitch, with Robert Lewandowski serving the second of his three match suspension, Ousmane Dembele will be the one to watch for Barcelona. The forward has five goals this season and is priced at 6/4 by bet365 to score anytime.
Anything else catch the eye?
Barcelona have won to nil in six of their last seven home matches and could be set for a similar outcome at 4/6 with Paddy Power. There have been a number of comfortable wins in that run which means a -2 handicap could also be considered at 13/8 with Paddy Power.
With the Catalans expected to be comfortable on Sunday, they could be tipped to win both halves at 13/10 with Coral.
