Forget about the World Cup – if it’s drama and excitement you want this weekend then look no further than the SPFL Championship.
The eyes of the football world will turn to Qatar tomorrow but the prospect of watching the hosts take on Ecuador in the opening game doesn’t exactly set the pulse racing.
So get yourself out of the house today and head to your nearest Scottish stadium to see the beautiful game in the raw.
Few leagues in the world can match the Championship for title twists this season with just eight points separating leaders Ayr from Partick Thistle in seventh place.
Few people expected the Honest Men and Morton to be in the mix for automatic promotion but they’re leading the way at the moment and are gathering some serious momentum.
Lee Bullen’s men have a three-point lead and face another test of their mettle with a long trip to Inverness this afternoon.
Caley Thistle were my tip for the title but they have been ravaged by injuries and a run of five games without a win has seen them drop to sixth.
That’s why McBookie make them 9/5 outsiders today with Ayr the favourites at 5/4 and the draw 12/5.
We should see goals with BTTS and over 2.5 strikes coming up in five of the last six for the Honest Men.
BTTS has also trapped in three of the last four for Inverness but it’s only a best 4/5 (Bet365) today so I’m going for over 2.5 goals instead at 19/20 with Ladbrokes.
Dipo Akinyemi looks the most impressive striker in the league by a distance this term and scored a double last time out for Ayr in their 3-2 win at Hamilton.
He’s now on 13 for the season and looks worth a punt again for anytime scorer in the Highlands at 7/5 with Bet356. If you fancy him to score more of twice, the odds increase to 13/2 at McBookie.
Morton are the Championship’s form team and last week’s 2-1 victory over Partick made it seven games unbeaten.
They also head north this afternoon to face a Cove Rangers side who have gone four matches without a defeat themselves.
Three of those matches ended in draws and another stalemate might be worth a punt today at 9/4 with McBookie. I’m going to play it a bit safer and go for the half-time draw at 23/20.
Cove have been involved in some thrillers of late but it ended in a 1-0 win for Ton when these sides last faced off so I’m betting against goals today.
Betfair price under 2.5 goals at 20/23 while betting against BTTS pays 23/20 with BetVictor.
Pre-season title favourites Dundee are now beginning to pick up speed with last week’s 2-0 win over Raith making it six unbeaten in the league.
They now host rock-bottom Hamilton and it’s hard to look past the Dark Blues, who are hot favourites at a best 7/15 with VBet.
Zach Robinson scored a double last weekend but the Englishman isn’t great value today for anytime scorer at a best 11/10 with Bet365. So I’m going to back winger Paul McMullan instead at 3/1 with Paddy Power.
Despite being in poor form, Accies have still been scoring so BTTS also stands a chance at 19/20 with QuinnBet.
Queen’s Park have been great value for thrills all season and there should be more goals when they head to Kirkcaldy this afternoon.
Raith’s resurgence ended last week at Dens but they had been flying before that so I’m doubling BTTS and over 2.5 goals in a McBookie bet builder that pays 110/100.
Partick desperately need to end their slump at home to Arbroath and it promises to be a tense 90 minutes. I like the half-time draw in this one at 23/20 with Unibet.
