Racing tips: Outsider of the bunch Scorpo can put up a fight at big odds

No excuses from yesterday's selection, Captain Tommy, who jumped as well as he possibly could've. He was simply not up to the level as the others in the race.

The odds of this selection might seem like I'm going a bit crazy, but I honestly believe SCORPO has a much better chance than a 33/1 shot suggests.

This race isn't great in quality, and you can see that by some of the strike rates of the horses in here. You have maidens from 20+ races and you have a horses with one or two wins. Scorpo has two wins, but both have been at this venue and both came when he has tried a long trip such as 3m 2f. In fact, his record of 3m 2f reads two wins and a place, and now he goes up in trip to 3m 3f, and that is why I believe he shouldn't be underestimated as he has a good strike rate when tackling this kind of trip at this track. I can see why people will fancy a punt on the lesser exposed horses, such as Celestial Sky who makes his chase debut, but I'm not totally convinced he'll stay this trip and even though this is a weak race, his jumping will need to be decent to win this.

Scorpo gets in this race off a very low weight of 10st 3lbs and comes here fit after a run last week over a trip which is extremely too short for him (2 mile), so should be raring to go. Hopefully there won't be any NR's as currently there is nine runners so there is three places on offer.

Market Rasen 1:40

Not great odds on offer for this selection, but I think she will be tough to beat if she jumps round safely. CHILLI FILLI won this race last year, and she bids for a back to back win. She is a good mare and is still somewhat lightly raced over fences, with this being only her ninth start. She comes into this race with no prep run under her belt, so fitness will have to be taken for trust, but she has run well when fresh before on a few occasions, so I think she will be fine, especially considering she won this race last year, so there is a strong chase this has been a target.

Looking through the opposition she faces tomorrow, I struggle finding how she can be beaten. Cassablanca Mix would be the first horse you'd jump to as the main threat, but I think she has already hit her prime and is on the downgrade, as she has shown little since she ran in this race last year. Also, I think she is better over shorter. I'd think the horse to follow the selection home is Win My Wings, who was progressive towards the back end of last season. She gets 4lbs from the selection, but that shouldn't be enough to beat her. If this was a handicap she would be receiving 9lbs, so effectively she is 5lb worse off. As for the others, they also have to prove that they are up to this standard of racing. Momella had bits of good form last season, but had a couple of shockers too and I think she might be better on soft ground.
