PYM (3.15) has a touch of quality and that should stand him in good stead in a typically competitive renewal of the Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle.
Pym gave 6lb and a beating to smart If The Cap Fits at Sandown and was a classy novice in the early stages of last season. Whatmore, runner-up to course specialist Regal Encore at Ascot, is up 4lb but Henry Daly’s gelding should be thereabouts, along with The Butcher Said.
SECRET INVESTOR (3.00) remains relatively unexposed over fences and can outrun his 12-1 odds in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at Newbury.
The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding was a smart novice and ran well in defeat here in February when chasing home Native River. The track was riding good when Secret Investor kept up a relentless gallop to beat re-opposing Potterman seven lengths at Chepstow last month, so today’s drying underfoot conditions should suit.
The Conditional, Kildisart and Vinndication are all closely matched on their running in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham festival. Vinnidication stuttered into the first fence and was never jumping boldly at Wetherby but was still able to chase home Cyborg. Kim Bailey and David Bass have been in rampant form and Vinndication rates a big threat.
Black Op made almost all the running in the Grade 2 Novices’ Chase at this fixture 12 months ago before being collared at the last by Champ. He will strip tighter for his comeback fourth to Imperial Aura at Carlisle when fading on the very testing ground.
TEA CLIPPER (1.50) has tasted defeat only once in five starts and can make light of a 7lb rise for beating Flash The Steel at Chepstow. The runner-up is 4lb better off but fell at Haydock last Saturday.
IBLEO (3.35) wins a narrow vote over top weight Moonlighter in the two-mile handicap chase. Venetia Williams is moving into top gear and Ibleo was pipped by Amoola Gold at Ascot, with the winner coming out and running an excellent second to First Flow last Saturday. Moonlighter is up 5lb after a terrific effort in the Grade 2 Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter earlier this month, only giving way close home to Greaneteen.
Can Lightning Strike Twice? 2.05 Newc Cornerstone Lad 28/1 E/W. Turned over the odds on JOLLY Buveur D Air in this race last year. I reckon it can, having a good E/W punt at that price.
Desire De Joie 16/1 E/W PP paying 5.
making some mistakes this evening, that’s at Fairyhouse.
The Bay Birch 18/1 E/W SKYBET paying 5. 1.15 N
On The Wild Side 6/1 SKYBET MBS 2/3 1.50 N
Le Bauge Au Roi 16/1 E/W HILLS paying 6 3.00 N
Les.
Betfair sportsbook got a industry best 28-1 and they as far as I can see are the only firm paying 3 places in this 7 runner race.
Senor Elvis, done Alf’s corner shop at Betafair 3 places 28/1 @ 1/5, medium bet. BET365 paying 4 places 1/4 E/W extra for my 4/1 ITV bet small bet. Like I said last night, took 28’s with PP now going 33’s so chucked a few more shilling on. HILLS just gone 40/1, 2 places @1/4.
Dias Felices amigo.
Cheers Les, will have a look. Had 28’s with PP, Betfair do E/W extra night before, but prices ain’t very good. BET365 better for E/W extra, so might wait till the morning.

Well done winners today, good viewing but a tough looking punting day……
Looks like a bit of a sting landed at Newcastle.
Yorkhill formerly very useful but shown nothing in ages suddenly turns up at 66-1 for new trainer A Thomson ( not our money Thomson I presume).
Well done to the connections ? anyhow.
Be interesting to see how he runs from now on….
Of Coz he will be rubbish next time Elvis .I am not being funny but staking on Saturday races is a no brainer .The more the punters on Saturdays strange things happen .Hardly any favorites winning today, a lot of long odds winners who have not been in form.Take the money during the week .It works for me
horse racing is game of cat and mouse, trainers try to place their horses as best they can, often when all hope seems lost, to get a better price etc. so if you can use that in your studying, you can find an edge, as brokers dont, they are a bit more straightforward, e.g. that perferfect candidate who won the race last year… bcz his recent form was gash and he was old in fairness, he was 12/1 last weekend to repeat… well, if we conclude he has been saved for this race, then we could summise he should perhaps be 5/1, and given he was 12/1 then we have a slight edge… all depends how you interpret things i suppose.. t’s also about opinions, sure brokers who set the market are ‘experts’ and work in a team, whereas it seems we are all casual individuals.. yet still do ok, do not let odds guide you in picking a horse as if you know what you’re doing, you won’t be too far away. they can help you avoid horses, e.g. huge sliders dont typically go in, i will take it to my grave, odds are manipulation, if the legitimate best chance horse and/or the horse seeing all the money was made fav, more favs woud win, bookies like to sneak in the actual winner through the back door, they’ll try all sorts of smoke and mirrors. i said this before and recoba claimed it to be horse swaddle… well it’s the truth, why are the exchange priced always better? lets say on saverage 2 pts better, well that 2 points allows the bookies to play with the market to trick people, just learn the game trust your instincts and bet appropriately and you’ll be ok.
#ramblings
I agree . The odds are the only tool they have to create doubt in your mind so they will obviously use them and they do . as you say go with your initial instincts as it’s not so bad losing than when you go in half hearted based on a so say market and lose and see your initial gut instinct come in . Fortune favours the brave haha
Never see a poor bookie, you will see many a poor ‘punter’ Keep on banging on about the GOLDEN OLD SAYING. Bookies always win, they lay the odds they take your money. You bet one horse in race, bookie as 6/7/8/9/10/11 ETC ETC.
Fair play to the connections, the horse ran well it was his day and he romped it to be fair. How many outsiders have gone in the last couple of weeks? Loads, there was 80/1 shot and 100/1 at Sedgefield in the same week.
I love it when the JOLLY gets turned over, especially if it’s a 33/1 or 66/1 shot. Good for the SPORT and good for RACING. The BOOKING are counting there lovely DOSH, thanks LADS, see ya next week, same time same place.
Best day for RACING Saturday, or when ITV show the BIG MEETING live on the BOX. 3.00pm race from NEWBURY was a classic BIG PURSE on offer BIG BOYS come out to race for that PURSE. Prize money on offer today was amazing, hence the standard of quality that tuned out.
The last two days have been amazing, meeting from Newbury yesterday and today, and 2 big races from Newcastle. I know what I prefer to watch and gamble on. Proper Grade 1 and Grade 2 races. Not the run-of-the-mill midweek stuff, from Bognor Regis/ southend-on-sea offering 3k purse money.
good day 2 winners 3/1 and 100/30 .
Good luck with any to come
