Football Tips: Bayern back in the old routine

RANGERS, Aberdeen, Motherwell and Spurs all progressed in the Europa League on Thursday but some found it easier and others.

My Super Single was Rangers -2 at just over evens and they easily covered that with a 5-0 rout at Lincoln Red Imps.

Aberdeen, who I tipped to qualify, ripped up their underdogs' status with a fine 2-0 win away to Viking to prove their excellent start to the season is no flash in the pan. Next they face Sporting Lisbon so that will be a big test.

I worried about Motherwell in Northern Ireland and they nearly blew it as Coleraine fought back from 2-0 down to for extra time. The Scots made it through extra time with nine men before winning 3-0 on penalties.

Ironically Coleraine netted two spot-kicks during the game then saw Northern Ireland international Trevor Carson save all three in the shoot-out to set up a tough away trip to Hapoel Beer Sheva in Israel.

Spurs also suffered a fright as they beat nine-man Lokomotiv Plovdiv with a last goal by Tanguy Ndombele. Their reward – a trip to Macedonia to face Shkendija on Thursday two days after an EFL Cup clash against Orient.

Well done to all the winners in the Europa League and we now head into the weekend and a big card.

On Friday Coventry face QPR in the Championship and Bayern Munich get the Bundesliga under way at home to Schalke.

The champions swept all before them on the way to the title and have netted 13 in beating Schalke four in a row at home. Goals should be the way to go here again.

In France it's Lyon vs Nimes and Benfica face Familcao in Portugal and there are plenty of other games to look at on the Continent.

I like the look of a QPR side who have started the season well with new signing Lyndon Dykes off and running with a goal last week. The new Scotland international brings power and punch to the frontline and I'm not sure Mark Warburton's men should be underdogs at St Andrews.

Back them not to lose and add Bayern -2 AH. To complete the treble I'm risking Benfica at Famalicao.

Benfica beat me in midweek then they went down at PAOK in the Champions League qualifiers and Jorge Jesus will be keen to make a winning start in the league or see his post come under immediate pressure.

The Brazilian looked like he'd signed well in the summer with Jan Vertonghen from Spurs, ex-Everton man Soares and Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez. But he'll have been shaken by the CL exit and needs a good display here.

Famalicao can make it tough on their own ground but Benfica will be more match fit and can take the points.

The US Open got off to a great start with some big names at the top of the leaderboard. Justin Thomas leads on five under with Rory McIlroy two back and pre-tournament favourite Dustin Johnson three over.

Going best from my antepost tips is 75-1 shot Matthew Wolff who is just one shot off the lead after a 66.

I'll keeping a close eye on the second round in anticipation of putting up some twoball tips on Saturday.
