CELTIC will be looking to continue their march towards yet another Scottish Premiership title when they lock horns with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday lunchtime.
The Hoops trophy defence looked to be under threat following a 2-1 reverse at home to Rangers at the end of December, however, since that Old Firm setback Celtic have opened up a ten point lead at the top of the table.
In fact, Neil Lennon's side have thrived since falling to defeat against their fierce rivals – winning eight games on the spin across all competitions – and in doing so they have fully capitalized on the recent results that have ruined Rangers title bid.
What's more, Lennon's champs have won 17 of their last 18 games whilst averaging almost three goals per game and such scintillating form does not bode well for an Aberdeen outfit who have endured a troublesome start to 2020.
Indeed, the Dons ended a five-game goal drought when picking up a much-needed three points against Hamilton in midweek, however, it will take more than that to silence the mutterings of discontent among the Pittodrie faithful.
The Red Army have not seen their side register a league win at home since Boxing Day and they have only managed to score five goals in their subsequent eight matches – three of which arrived against relegation-threatened Hamilton Accies on Wednesday night.
The Betting Odds
Aberdeen are as big as 8/1 (Ladbrokes) to overcome their Hoops hoodoo, while a share of the spoils in the north east is available at 18/5 with Betfred.
Celtic have triumphed in their last eight visits to Pittodrie and the Scottish champions are odds-on favourites at 4/11 (Bet 365) to extend that sequence on Sunday afternoon.
The Betting Angles
Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been unplayable since returning from the winter shutdown and I'm surprised to see the in-form Frenchman priced at Evens with SportNation to grab a goal in the Granite City.
The Hoops hitman has hit 20 league goals in 23 Scottish Premiership appearances this season – including a goal in both meetings with Aberdeen this term – and the above-mentioned price is just too tempting to pass up on given Edouard's red-hot form.
Whether or not Edouard gets on the scoresheet remains to be seen, however, given the fluency that free-scoring Celtic are playing with, I do fancy Lennon's side to strike at least a twice in this tussle.
Two or more Celtic goals looks a bit skinny at 4/7 with Bet 365, however, those odds can be boosted up to Evens by adding five or more Celtic corners – a bet that I successfully tipped in this fixture back in October.
Dons boss Derek McInnes will set out to frustrate the visitors and the coupled with the fact that Celtic have been playing with wing-backs recently all adds to the appeal of siding with the aforementioned combination.
In conjunction with that, I'm also going to combine Celtic to win and over 1.5 match goals at 7/10 with Bet 365 – a bet that would have banked profit in 12 of the Bhoys last 13 matches.
Celtic have scored three or more goals in their last seven outings and after Rangers clash with Livingston was called off due to adverse weather conditions, I fully expect Celtic to further extend their lead at the summit.
