Racing tips: French import ready for take-off at Sandown

PROTEKTORAT (1.50) was bought quite expensively after finishing runner-up at Auteuil but failed to live up to expectations in Britain last season.

The gelding has undergone a wind operation and Dan Skelton applies a hood for his comeback run in the maiden hurdle at Sandown. This is a fairly modest contest and it will be a huge disappointment if Protektoral doesn't mop this up in style.

The Novices' Limited Handicap Chase is a cracker, with several horses closely matched on last season's hurdles form. CHAMBARD (1.15) represents Venetia Williams and the yard is in good form, saddling a double last Monday before Cepage ran a cracker under top weight at Aintree yesterday. Chambard ran well in novice hurdles but has always looked a chaser. He is worth each-way support in what should prove an informative contest. Champagne Court ran splendidly when runner-up to Flash The Steel in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow  and may be up to conceding weight to all his rivals on chasing debut.

Evan Williams is another trainer in form and POBBLES BAY (3.05) can give away weight in the 3m handicap hurdle. He won here over fences last season and returned to action at Uttoxeter when hunting up Sirobbie in a handicap hurdle, trying to concede 10lb to that course specialist.
