ANOTHER great day yesterday with two winners at 9-2 and 7-1 and nearly a third with Magnetic Charm just losing out by a neck.
We go again today with six selections at various prices.
Once again today, other than Blue Point, I am taking on the favourites. Almost every horse that comes to Royal Ascot has been primed for the day, and some have been targeted at their specific race from the day they were foaled so I always think that outsiders have a better chance at Royal Ascot (and other big festivals like Cheltenham) than they might have on an average race day.
In the first race of the day at 2.30pm I fancy HIGHLAND CHIEF as an undervalued outsider. His debut win was solid and if he was trained by O’Brien or Appleby he would be much shorter. He is beautifully bred and although his debut win was over 5 furlongs I reckon that will have come as a surprise because he is bred to be better over further. William Hill are offering 5 places where I think everyone else is only 3 places so that’s a great offer to take advantage of.
At 3.05pm you would be daft to lay Danny Tudhope at 33-1 on Space Traveller the way he has been riding the course this week (form figures of 131193 so far) but the horse has a fair bit to find in my opinion so he won’t be my pick. The one that I think is way overpriced is I AM SUPERMAN for the O’Callaghan yard. I think because he is one of the smaller Irish trainers the form of the horse (including 6th in the Irish guineas) has been overlooked a bit and I think he will outrun his 20-1 odds. Several bookies have gone 4 or 5 places in this so use them if you can.
For the 3.40pm my selection is DEFOE. He is the consistent solid choice here against some opponents who all have question marks. He looks a solid bet at the prices.
BLUE POINT won so well against the classy Battaash on Tuesday and although this is a slightly quick turnaround it’s not uncommon for sprinters and I think he can smash the field again today in the 4.20pm.
At 5.00pm I am siding with HEY JONESY who is a really consistent sort and may have a bit more improvement in him. He will be very comfortable at this level and you can be sure that Kevin Ryan will have him primed for it.
My final tip of the day is my old friend PALLASATOR in the 5.35pm. We really are taking his current wellbeing on trust because his last two runs have been poor but he won this well last year and I’m hoping Gordon Elliott will have him ready to rock today.
Good luck all!
just posted one to watch today and popped over to see if you had a thread for today, strangely enough I put up HIGHLAND CHIEF too, so BOL, these connections do spring a shock now and then, albeit not at the highest class meetings, but as you say bred to go further and the 5 places is fine enough for me.
well done this week.
