BOOKIES reckon Andy Murray’s chances of winning a first Grand Slam this year appear are on the wane after his shock exit at the hands of Nicholas Mahut at the Queen’s Club.
Murray, who had won the Aegon Championships for the past two years, looked badly in need of some grasscourt practice after falling at the first hurdle.
Scottish bookmakers McBookie.com pushed Murray out to a top-priced 10-1 from 8-1 to land the men’s Wimbledon title which starts later this month.
Spokesman Paul Petrie said: “Murray probably did as well as anyone expected losing to David Ferrer in the quarter-finals of the French Open but this loss to Mahut is another thing altogether.
“He will need to up his form considerably if he is to challenge at Wimbledon and with just the US Open to follow Wimbledon we have lengthened his odds of a first Grand Slam win in 2012 to 7-2 from 3-1.”
