Chelsea vs AFC Bournemouth
Carabao Cup Quarter-Final. Kick-off: 7.45pm, Wednesday 19th December.
BOURNEMOUTH have never won a major trophy but this season's Carabao Cup run has given their fans some hope that they can finally get their hands on some silverware.
After seeing off MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers and Norwich, though, there is a massive step up in class for the Cherries as we get to the business end of the tournament.
A trip to Stamford Bridge presents a huge hurdle to their ambitions and even if they manage to jump it then other giants such as Manchester City, Spurs and Arsenal potentially lie in wait.
The bookies reckon the adventure will end here for Eddie Howe's side who are 19/2 with 888 Sport to win, with Chelsea 27/100 and the draw 9/2.
What might give them a little hope is that Chelsea talisman Eden Hazard is a fitness doubt while boss Maurizio Sarri may also be tempted to give other big guns a rest.
But the Italian has a deep squad blessed with world-class talent and the Blues should have too much firepower and class for Bournemouth.
Having said that, it could be a tight one if Bournemouth are on their game so it may pay to back the Cherries with a two-goal start in the 3-way Handicap at 10/11 with 888 Sport.
Backing Chelsea to win after a level first half also appeals at 10/3 with 888 Sport as it may take the Blues a while to get going if they make a few changes.
Frenchman Olivier Giroud could start for Sarri's side and I like the look of him for either first scorer (19/5 with 888 Sport) or anytime scorer (27/25).
There's better value further down the lists in those markets and a bet on Cesc Fabregas might be a good investment. The Spanish midfielder is 10/1 to break the deadlock and a decent 7/2 for anytime scorer.
Recommended bets
- Draw half-time/Chelsea full-time 10/3 (888 Sport)
- Olivier Giroud first scorer 19/5 (888 Sport)
- Cesc Fabregas anytime scorer 7/2 (888 Sport)
