Torpedo Moscow v FK Kaluga
Sunday, Sep 2 , Russia PFL Centre, KO 2pm
Torpedo Moscow are one of the well-known names of Russian football. But for the last three seasons they’ve been languishing in the third tier of Russian football, the PFL.
In 2015 they lost all their corporate funding/backing and were relegated from the Russian Premier League for failing to provide sufficient funds to compete in that league or the FNL, the Russian second tier, and, for the last three seasons, they’ve finished mid-table in the PFL Central.
I note with interest how well they’ve started this season though. They’ve won every one of the five games they’ve played. They’ve done it scoring 6 goals and conceding 0.
That’s a pretty remarkable degree of efficiency. They’ve won three at home 1-0, and two away, one 2-0 and one 1-0. That includes games against two teams that finished above them last season in 2nd and 3rd when Torpedo finished 6th of 14, scoring 44 and conceding 22.
They’re doing something a bit different here. Interestingly, they have also beaten the whipping boys of the league Strogino who have lost all five games they’ve played this season.
It’s interesting because in those five games Strogino have scored 0 and conceded 11. Even against the weakest opponent Torpedo still only won the game 1-0 at home, without getting out of breath and just doing what they had to do.
Today’s opponents Kaluga finished 12th of 14 overall last season, scoring 20 and conceding 37 in all 26 games. In 13 aways they scored 11 and conceded 21.
That would normally be a bit high for our liking. And this season in their two home games they’re F2 A3 which again again is dangerously high for us but note today’s game is away and in four away games this season they’re F1 A1 – two 0-0, one 1-0 win and one 1-0 defeat.
H2H between these two: last season at home Torpedo won 1-0. Season before that it was 1-1. Season before that it was 0-1.
I really like the look of under 2.5 at 9-10 though a small nibble on the 1-0 correct score at 11-2 may appeal!

- Under 2.5 goals (9-10, bet365)
Without doubt, the post I am most disappointed has not come in.
Torpedo go shot-crazy against a giant Rizla paper in goals. First half stats 3 shots on target, 9 off. HT 3-0.
Second half, they close it down. One more shot on target, no more shots off-target.
Final score 3-0.
I can tell convincing everyone about unders is going to take a bit more work!
Meantime, what a shout from Greg re goalkeeper booking in the old firm derby! Genius.
