AD LIBITUM (8.55) had some decent yardsticks behind when beaten a neck at Ripon and could go one better at Haydock this evening.
Roger Fell’s gelding was touched off by Claire Underwood with better fancied Global Art and Junea well held in third and fourth. Ad Libitum is due to go up 3lb so is well enough treated if able to repeat that effort.
ZABEEL STAR (7.55) has been in terrific form at Hamilton, thumping Aclimatise before losing out in a photo to favourite Aasheq eight days ago.
BREXITMEANSBREXIT (3.40) wins the vote over hot favourite Marilyn at Yarmouth. Richard Hannon’s filly acquitted herself with credit behind Desert Diamond and Akvavera at York and she gets lumps of weight from the market leader. Marilyn is a dual course winner over a mile and there’s no reason to believe she shouldn’t cope with today’s extra two furlongs.
MUSHTAQ (4.10) should go well in the mile handicap if reproducing his third to useful Ostilio and Exhort at Newmarket in mid-May. Odds of around 6-1 overnight make him a solid each-way punt.

Russia ? Saudi Arabia ?
I wasn’t too strong on any bet in this match but if I had to pick one bet it would be
RUSSIA over 1.5 goals 4/5 coral
but I think Russia could score 3 and that’s 5/2
Host countries are usually top teams – apart from South Korea and South Africa.
I don’t know about the Swiss in 1954 but Russia aren’t a great side.
Anything could happen today though but I’d be surprised if they scored 3.
I don’t get this negativity everywhere with Russia, they have only been playing friendlies and have been fielding weakened teams, we just haven’t seen them yet with their first choice team.
They have got some really talented footballers and I mean really talented, anyone that knows Russian football will know Aleksey Miranchuk but his twin brother Anton has probably overtaken him in the last year, I really do rate Anton Miranchuk but as I said on the other thread there are more players in the Russian squad that are a class act, there is also Alexandr Golovin who is wanted by Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Monaco and Juventus, ask any Russian fan and we have asked a few to name one player and I would be confident they would say Golovin, he is an attacking midfielder that can defend well and he works hard for the team, then there’s Denis Cheryshev, goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev and Fyodor Smolov who plays for Krasnodar and has scored 52 goals in 73 appearances, his international record is 12 goals in 32 games, Manuel Pellegrini wants him at West Ham next season
As for home advantage we can ask just what is home advantage, it’s familiar surroundings with the support of a vocal home crowd, it can even be the lack of traveling involved, as humans we are always more comfortable in surroundings we know and with sports stars it’s exactly the same, if they feel comfortable then they are going to play better and give more but who knows, maybe the pressure will get to them
Fully agree John there’s far too much being made of there world ranking which is completely false, also there team didn’t do to badly in Europe and they have plenty home grown talents.
Gl
Nice one John. There was very little enthusiasm for Russia among tipsters here and elsewhere so we’ll done for sticking to your guns.
Thanks, they didn’t even need the Miranchuk twins
Well done John – you called it spot on.
Couldn’t believe how poor the Saudis were.
Thanks mr f, like I said I have watched hours upon hours of video footage for this World Cup and some of these Russian players just looked so good especially the younger ones, it still wasn’t their strongest team today as Denis Cheryshev came off the bench and the Miranchuk twins didn’t even get on.
Looking forward to Morocco as some of their players also look really good
Yeah Morocco look decent and should beat Iran.
I know they are no 4/9 shots on paper but I very rarely look at paper form for any sport, when I study I watch previous form, in this day and age you can find any match online somewhere, with paper form you are trusting other people’s judgement, whereas watching previous matches or races you are making your own judgment,
Just look at racing owners, trainers, jockeys or managers and players in sport they watch videos, they may read reports made up from their own staff but they then watch for themselves, I have watched hundreds of hours of games for this World Cup, I do the same for racing and after studying Russia I can safely say that if they turn up and play to their strengths then they have the class to win comfortably today, they have more than their fair share of players that can be creative and make that opportunity out of nothing, they have players that want to get forward but also work hard for the team by tracking back when needed.
I know they are no world beaters but they have something, they have enough
I hear people say Russia have no stars, all I can say to that is their stars are ready to shine especially the Miranchuk twins and Golovin

Wow major upset with the team selection, I hope Russia don’t end up regretting having the Miranchuk twins on the bench, both should have started the match
Looking at the lineups SMOLOV at 6/5 to score looks good
Danny Tudhope has given johnb nap a absolute shocker of a ride how did he manage to get that beat
Not tudhopes finest moment i must say
What’s clown Tudhope is. Absolutely shocking ride. Wonder what johns thoughts are
Best horse in the race didn’t win but that’s racing, it’s a sport where you need the horse and the jockey to be on a going day
Top othe ra, that was the easiest 9/1 winner i ever picked, odds on willy mullins horse goes to 6/4 live prices, top othe ra been running in good races so i rwcogmised the name, and he is a different mullins horse so they were obvipisly going to win by a short head, love the ol bent irish racing.
