OCT 4: EUROPA LEAGUE TIPS

IT’S another tough night for punters who are faced with that old quandary: Which sides actually want to win the Europa League?

For many clubs taking part in Europe’s secondary tournament is simply a distraction and you’ve go to wonder why some bother qualifying in the first place.

Take Liverpool, for example. Many punters had their fingers burned when Brendan Rodgers sent his reserves to Young Boys for a Group A opener. But they proved to be special reserves as they notched a fine 5-3 win.

Rodgers is likely to stand by most of those youngsters for the visit of Udinese but the Italians, gutted at not making the Champions League, will also be weakened with star striker Antonio di Natale one of those who could be rested.

Crucially Liverpool haven’t lost at home in this tournament at Anfield since 2003 and will probably edge it although I’m not that keen on best odds of 4-6 with William Hill and others.

Udinese, who drew 1-1 in their opener with Anzhi, have won just one of their nine away matches in Europe, including a draw at Celtic last season.

Best bet could be both teams to score at 10-11 with bet365 even though Udinese have encountered back-to-back 0-0 draws in Serie A. This should be an open affair but having conceded three in Switzerland it’s difficult to see how the inexperienced Reds can keep a clean sheet.

Spurs are just 11-10 with Stan James for a trip to a troubled Panathinaikos who sit 12th in the Greek league with just win so far this season.

Andre Villas Boas’ side won’t be at full strength but I expect them to return with three points.

Alan Pardew is set to rest starts such as Demba Ba, Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa three days before a Premier League clash against Man Utd. If those three are not on the teamsheet consider Bordeaux at 21-10 with William Hill to win at St James’.

Elsewhere the short-priced bankers are Anzhi (4-11, various) at home to Young Boys, Metalist (2-5, boylesports) at home to Rapid Vienna and Atletico Madrid (1-4, various) at home to Plzen.

For better value look at Juande Ramos’ Dnipro at 13-10 with boylesports at AIK Stockholm and Twente (6-5, Paddy Power) at Helsingborgs. Steve McClaren has named a strong squad and his men are going well in the league.

Bruges have won six in a row and should be too strong at home to lowly Portuguese outfit Maritimo. The Belgians are 1-1 with the likes of Paddy Power and Ladbrokes.

There are usually plenty of goals in these games so I’ve put up a both teams to score line that features PSV v Napoli. Both sides are going well domestically and have named strong squads for this game in Holland.

Stephen, I wouldn’t think about backing Newcastle until I see their starting line-up.

What’s your certainty on the the treble? I’m thinking of backing it! Should have won last night but schalke threw it away!

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Mike, work it out by the odds. If it’s 2-1 it will come up once out of three so “certainty” would be 33 per cent. It’s evens it will come up one out of two so “certainty” 50 per cent.

This is a competition where there will be plenty of goals…its just trying to find which ones..

Im not putting too much thought in it so will just select at random and hope it comes in.

Napoli to win at PSV with Cavani to score anytime @ 6/1 doubled up with Spurs @ 4/5 £20 stake returns £252. What do you think Mr Fixit?

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Bingo, as I’ve said if Napoli and Spurs are close to full strength they should win. I’d always back Cavani if he starts.

  9. Darren G 5 years ago

Was in hills at lunch, had my dbl on a slip, Brugge to win and Liverpool game btts, both evens on coupon, for my 100 bet would return 400. Both prices have come in and return shortens to 329, so frustrating, this happens to my selections a lot. At the moment no bet, btts and over 1.5 goals are good bets in Europa league

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Darren, it’s happening more and more but bookies will tell you they are businesses and if we’re all backing btts they have to cut prices. Best advice is to get on early or bet online.

  10. Robbie 5 years ago

Do u think Anzhi will be up for this one, and start there strongest team? Thinking of going over 1.5 or Anzhi to score 2 or more.

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Robbie, pretty sure Anzhi will field a strong side. They want to make their mark on this and gain some experience for what is likely to be a Champions League campaign next season.

napoli 7/2, how they so big, psv arent upti much these days as long as napoli play full team

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Craig, if Napoli are up for it and field a full team it’s a big price. They have name a strong squad but that doesn’t mean all their top men will start. After a poor start to the season PSV have won their last two games by an aggregate of 9-0 so confidence will be up.

  15. johnt 5 years ago

Mr fix do you actually put much work into the btts bets or are they just a side or cover bet, as these are the type of bet i do thnks

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Johnt, I never put up random bets and for the btts there is usually a write-up to explain my reasoning behind each game. But by Thursday I’m starting to look at the weekend tips and my Daily Record column so I didn’t have time do that. However, I looked at every fixture and every team’s scoring habits before picking the games. But as I’ve said before it’s the kind of market where random selections can come up trumps. And even more so tonight when many teams will field changed line-ups.

Craig, forgot they were 5pm kick-offs. Anzhi 0-0 nearing half-time so hopefully get one after the break. Right, off to the boy’s football training. He’s wearing his brand new Clydebank top so hope he doesn’t get laughed at. I’ve told him it’s one of the most wanted.

  17. craig alves 5 years ago

gd start to the btts, goal in the 2 early kick offs for both underdogs, widny mind all 5 up lke, 1st time av done all and permed them just cos its europa league

Johnt, 3 out of 5 is OK so far. I expect Napoli to score but the worry has to be Steaua which is still 0-0.

  22. Robbie 5 years ago

How would u rate the athletico lineup?

  23. Peter Brown 5 years ago

Waitin on Stuttgart and Napoli to score for a 5 fold Btts! Hope Napoli can score without cavani :(

  24. Paulo 5 years ago

Think Napoli failing to score will burst a few coupons tonight…. My 6 fold being one of them!!

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Paulo, I think PSV were being underestimated by some. Also not sure if the win was a priority for Napoli with them riding high in Serie A.

  25. Mike 5 years ago

Nice tip on the treble fixit! Wish I would have backed it as a treble! Had a £60 stake which returned £142 which is not bad :)

  26. bob mck 5 years ago

Cheers for the treble MrF. I added A.madrid to it as well so was cursing my greed until the last minute. There are few things better than a 90+min goal to win a bet!

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Bob, real sweat from Atletico. Always a worry when they don’t play Falcao.

      • Willie McGuire 5 years ago

Paul if Falcao had played Im sure my bet of Atletico -1, Rubin -1, Lyon, Inter, Hannover, & Brugges would have paid.

£176 for a £5er and Atletico’s team selection puts the boot into that! ragin.

        roll on friday nights games!

Willie, I said loads of times yesterday that team news had to be checked before betting. For example a lot of people were tipping up Bordeaux but Newcastle fielded a much stronger side than expected. And team news suggested Di Natale would be rested but he played and scored in Udinese’s win at Liverpool. It’s a minefield is the Europa League where best bet seems to be on the goals markets.

  27. Tony 5 years ago

LOL, great treble m8, made up for the Montpellier late equaliser yesterday.
Also had a fiver on Udinese, well over priced at 4/1 I thought.
As a red fan I bet with my brain not my heart.
Next up Stoke on Sunday 6/1 ?
    Oh dear, oh dear

  28. Froody 5 years ago

Cheers for the Dnipro and Brugge tips bud, came outa work just before 8pm and managed to get on them, a late Athletico Madrid goal was a good way to close the evening anaw.

  29. Paulo 5 years ago

Yes mr F, still thought they would have bagged at least a goal though. Cavanni and Pandev started on the bench, other 5 btts were up at half time as well. Ah well never mind roll on Sat.

  30. johnt 5 years ago

Mr fix thought they would at least score, as he put em in the both teams to score.
