THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and Scottish Cup first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie. It’s a fantastic service but of course there is a limited card this weekend.
McBookie‘s Damian Walker gives his first-scorer tips every weekend and challenges punters to pick their own.
Leave your tip as a comment and quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win £10 this weekend. Here is Damian with this week’s selections.
He says: “One loser and two games wiped out by Storm Gertrude meant it was a blank weekend. And I got the Elgin game totally wrong as they crashed 4-2 at Annan.
“I thing I did say about Elgin was their title chances for their small squad rest on them staying clear of injuries and suspensions so to have a player sent off and another break his foot last weekend was not what the doctor ordered.
“Not surprisingly punters have weighed into the opening 13-10 about Queen’s Park beating them on Saturday and the Spiders are now just 21-20 at the time of writing.
“However, I think this is a massive over-reaction especially since shot-shy Queen’shave scored just three goals in their last 540 minutes of football. Also Elgin this week moved to sign Dundee defender Sam Dryden on loan to replace injured Matthew Cooper who was the player to break his foot.
“So quite how the league leaders are 12-5 for this game is beyond me and I’ll be sticking with Black and Whites’ prolific striker Craig Gunn at 9-2 McBookie for the first goal.
“It’s the fifth round of the Scottish Cup this weekend and the first tie of the round sees Championship leaderless Rangers entertain a managerless Kilmarnock from the Premiership.
“It has not been a great few weeks for Killie ut should they be 13-2 for this game, especially after Rangers won their last two games by a solitary goal?
“I’d argue not and the 9-20 about the Gers is a little on the short side. Their only game against Premiership opposition this season saw them lose 3-1 at home to St Johnstone having previously won 10 on the bounce.
“Rangers were caught napping at the back on numerous occasions in that game and there’s just a chance they could get caught cold again against Premiership opposition.
“Killie striker Josh Magennis has 11 goals this season and three from his last five games and is 19-2 with McBookie to grab the opener.
“And I am going with a similar train of thought for my final selection which is also in the Cup and involves Premiership versus Championship in the shape of Edinburgh rivals Hearts against Hibs.
“Pricing this game up in my head before looking at the actual quotes I had Hearts at odds on so the current quote of evens looks good value.
“Remember Hearts sit third in the Premiership and drew 2-2 at home to leaders Celtic on December 27 and a month ago beat second-placed Aberdeen at Tynecastle in the Cup.
“That is a level of form which should have them as strong favourites in my mind so a Hearts first scorer seems the way to go. The Jambos have signed Nigerian striker Abiola Dauda on loan from Vitesse Arnhem to replace Chinese-bound Osman Sow but a safer bet for the first goal might be with Gavin Reilly.
“He has scored three goals from his last five games and often takes the penalties. McBookie make him 11-2 to score the first goal of the game on Sunday.”
