For all the millions spent by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City the holy grail of the Champions League trophy has eluded them. So far.
Will this be the season that the blue half of Manchester are crowned European Champions? The bookies seem to think so. Again.
As has been the norm at this stage in recent seasons, City are favourites to end their Champions League hoodoo at just 15/8.
But they've exited the competition at the hands of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Lyon, Liverpool and Monaco under Pep so there's no guarantees over tonight's tie against RB Leipzig.
Their German opponents were safely tucked in behind Real Madrid in Group F, recovering from 4-1 home defeat to Shakthar Donetsk on the opening matchday to finish six points clear of the Ukrainians and book thier place in the last-16.
Domestically they sit 5th in the table, just four points off the top spot and boast one of the best home records in the Bundesliga.
City have been too inconsistent at times this season to get excited about the 17/20 available on them winning tonight. They've only won half of their 12 away games in the Premier League and were held to 0-0 draws in Dortmund and Copenhagen in Group G. Notably, Erling Haaland played just 45 minutes of those two games.
The Champions League is of course Haaland's stage. The Norwegian hitman has already scored 28 goals in 23 matches so is just two away from hitting the 30-mark, a feat that took Messi 48 matches and Ronaldo 74! He's already scored six against RB Leipzig during his time at Borussia Dortmund, three doubles in fact. He's 10/11 to net on his return to Germany tonight and 4/1 to hit a fourth brace against RBL

Spurs v Chelsea Sun 130pm
I’m sure lots may disagree with this but I feel Chelsea are a really good bet this weekend at the prices. An away game to a largely inconsistent Spurs is the perfect tonic after the horror show against Southampton. Spurs will be missing Bentaccur from the engine room and from what I’ve seen of Enzo Fernandez, he seems to have continued with his solid WC form, so I think Chelsea win the midfield battle. Furthermore, that Spurs defence is poor. I watched the highlights from the last two Chelsea games, where they recorded an Xg of 2.2 away to Dortmund and 1.62 at home to Southampton, how they didn’t score at least once in both games is mind boggling, but as I said, I can’t see a poor Spurs backline keeping them out, especually with Sterling back in the side, he improved them when he came on lto. I’ll be on these;

I wouldn’t touch Chelsea with a barge pole at the moment. They may have a goal in them but I suspect a lot of the players are frustrated that Potter is still there. The new guys aren’t going to down tools or anything but they are rudderless and have No cutting edge. The manager is out of his depth and he knows it. Watching his interviews, he appears like a forward who hasn’t scored for months, a salesman who hasn’t converted a lead. He doesn’t want to resign (that’s not what you do when the sack will earn you millions) but he knows it’s inevitable.
Spurs on the other hand have just sneaked into the top 4 (miraculously). They will be determined to stay there. Conte will be determined to beat his old club. Even if they go behind, I would personally still bet on Spurs, as inconsistent as they are. Tottenham win all day long for me.
I’m in no doubt most will agree with you too Evens! But the last two Chelsea performances weren’t anywhere as bad as what they seem at first look.. and Potter has been backed by the board again this week so the players will know if they want European football next season they’ll have to turn a corner ASAP.. the 1/3 on Chelsea to score looks like banker material imo for doubles, trebles etc.
Also, without going into too much detail, after last night the 6/4 for Liverpool to make the top 4 is extremely appealing to me.. Nunez and Gapko are starting to purr, and with their games in hand, they’re right back in the mix, so I I’ll be all over the 6/4.. penny for Macca’s thoughts on that price!
