Football has a habit of throwing up some intriguing plots ahead of big matches and the leading characters in tonight's clash at the Bernabéu will steal all the pre-match headlines.
In the blue corner Frank Lampard has been thrust back in to the Stamford Bridge hotseat 26 months after he vacated it when the club were sitting mid-table and out of the FA Cup at the hands of Luton. In the white corner, his vastly experienced former gaffer, Carlo Ancelotti for whom Lampard was vice-captain when they were Premier League winners in 2010.
Lampard might feel he has some unfinished business in the Champions League with Chelsea. After all, it was his squad that Thomas Tuchel guided to their 2021 triumph in Porto after Lampard was relieved of his duties in the January of that year with the club in the last-16 of the competition.
It's now his turn to pick up the reigns at the quarter-final stage and his first task is to navigate a way past 14-time Champions of Europe, Real Madrid.
Mardid thumped Liverpool 6-2 on aggregate in the previous round and raised some eyebrows with a stunning 4-0 win at the Nou Camp in the Copa Del Rey last midweek but a 3-2 home defeat to Villarreal on Saturday underlined an inconsistency that has plagued thier season.
But it's hard to make a case for a struggling Chelsea side to take anything from their trip to the Spanish capital and Madrid look pretty solid at 7/10 to take a first leg lead. The Blues have failed to score in their last three outings so a Real Madrid win to nil will be popular at 7/4.
The irrepressible Karim Benzema scored back-to-back hat-tricks last week and scored three over the two legs against Liverpool. He'll be the obvious danger and is 11/10 to score anytime or 3/1 to open the scoring. A third hat-trick in four games pays 22/1.
A quick glance at the Serie A table would have punters all over the 4/7 on Napoli to qualify from their tie against fellow-countrymen, AC Milan.
Luciano Spalletti's men are 22 points ahead of the current Italian champions but a resounding 4-0 win for I Rossoneri at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona a few weeks ago has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons ahead of their two-legged Champions League showdown.
Napoli are on the brink of their first Serie A title since 1990 and are daring to dream about adding the Champions League title to what has already been an incredible season. We tipped them at 7s to win the big cup before they knocked out Eintracht Frankfurt and a kind-looking draw has seen them chopped in to 4s but this tie has taken on a different complexion since then.
Not only do Milan go in to the match bouyed by their win in Naples but Serie A's top scorer Victor Osimhen misses out again for the visitors. The Nigerian striker has scored 21 in the league and a further four in Europe so will be a big loss for Napoli.
That might swing things in the hosts favour at the San Siro at 8/5. Napoli will know that as long as they hang in on the tie they should have Osimhen back for the return leg on their own turf.

well done to the Man City playing squad , management team, data analyst guys etc, a totally magnificent effort all round club effort last night.
From a neutral Scottish point of view, i hope they go on to take that walk to the podium as winners. of the trophy..
That was the bet last night well done to the site for tipping ! Not too bothered who wins it tho.
Was a great performance. Nothing against City but would rather see Napoli win it. Its refreshing when a side comes along that has been put together without an obscene budget. Just clever buying and good management. These sides usually come up short (eg: Monaco, Ajax etc) and then get pillaged by the rich clubs so it would be kind of nice to see Napoli win it before their best players get poached.
Fancy them tonight. I know they got spanked 4:0 by Milan recently but having watched it, I understand how it can happen but think they have so much quality and with the league sewn up, they will not be as naive tonight.
No joy with my bookings in the England ladies game LOSERS

Couldn’t agree more, nice to see teams win who play within the rules.
Come off it Maccathered. Teams that play within the rules? Like state funded Real Madrid or AC Milan being deducted points previously for match fixing? FYI, I really hope Napoli win it as I agree with your point. Just don’t let your point be bias towards City, it’s almost as though you’re bitter…
Bitter i’m not bitter at all. just explain to me how the hell does a club go from nothing to the biggest earning club within a ten year period, Liverpool and Man Utd are two of the biggest clubs in world football, supported in every country on the planet and you expect me to believe Man City pull in more revenue than these two clubs, sorry i just don’t believe that can be true. It took Liverpool and Man Utd many many years to what they are now, football clubs don’t just grow over a very short space of time, i mean City haven’t even won a Champions league title yet.
Wasn’t so long ago someone was getting giddy about a supposed Qatari interest in
a certain club that plays in red and Jude Bellingham would be the first mega signing through the door. They even told me it couldnt be true if i had heard nothing of the Qatari stuff
What’s that got to do with anything smokey completely off topic.
They have richer owners but that’s not the point here. the point is no matter how much money your owners have a club can still spend no more than their income.
Totally agree Maccathered, City’s finances scream foul play but my point is that the other clubs you mentioned as your preferred winners are not squeaky clean either. So there seems a little resentment towards City and not the others, why so? Because they “robbed” your team of titles? (Which I actually agree with if that’s your reason for bitterness) but it’s still bitterness nevertheless.
One Madrid goal required just 🙏

HB Torshavn over 3.5tgs @ 13/10 (Whill)
HB Torshavn have started the season well with a couple of new signings in the forward areas fixing the issues they had last season of putting teams away. Tvoroyri have just been promoted and look like they might struggle having conceded 16 goals in their first 3 games. Have watched one of their games and they did not look good 😅
Would have made this a nap had it been at home for HB, but will have a smaller stake on which shouldn’t be far off.
Good luck 🤞
I completely agree with the others. Let’s not forget, Macca likes to always thinks he is right, and if you say something he doesn’t like he gets annoyed. Quite funny really. I mean come on…He thought there wasn’t going to be much goals in the City game yesterday 😂 Macca does get bitter, but it’s fun reading.
Anyway…On to tonight. I wonder who is going to tip under 2.5 match goals lol 😂
Here we go again the biggest after eventer walking.
Macca
Any tips for tonight’s matches ? Seriously like ?
Have you got any, don’t want anything like Milan to win lol what was it 3-1 lol
Lol 😂
I’m going for not many goals in Madrid, as I don’t feel Chelsea will open up and I can see a tight game possibly 1-0 to Madrid. Under 2.5 goals NAP – Both keeps to get shown a card
Real Madrid v Chelsea.
I think Lampard will park the bus, go for a 0:0 and try to win it in the 2nd game. Whether he succeeds will be interesting. During his first spell at Chelsea, during the early part of his tenure, he was quite adept at bus parking. The problem was he couldn’t get the balance between not conceding and scoring.
My tip therefore is under 0.5 first half goals, which is 3.0 on the Betfair Exchange or 2.75 on 365.
This eventuality could boost any bet builder if it lands or kill it before halftime, so tread cautiously. Good luck with your bets folks.
