Wednesdays top tips 4

The revamped Champions League throws up plenty of blockbuster games and there's a cracker tonight as European champions Real Madrid head to Anfield.

The season couldn't have started any better for Liverpool, with Arne Slot's side topping the table in the both the Premier League and Champions League, having lost just once in 18 games.

That's the kind of form Real Madrid were showing last term, with only city rivals Atletico managing to lay a glove on Carlo Ancelotti's side as they won La Liga and ruled Europe for a 15th time.

Everyone expected that dominance to continue after they snapped up Kylian Mbappe but they've already lost twice in the Champions League and were outclassed by Barcelona in El Clasico.

So Real Madrid need a statement win at Anfield to show they're still the team to be in Europe.

Liverpool v Real Madrid top betting tips

I'm surprised to see Liverpool as odds-on favourites for this one at 17/20 with Betano as Real Madrid are still capable of turning on the style. The Spanish champions are 14/5 and a few punters will fancy a nibble at that price.

Real Madrid are probably so big because Vincius Junior is out injured along with key defenders Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal. But Vincius' absence will allow Mbappe to operate on his favourite position on the left of the attack and this could be the night the Frenchman roars back to form.

Mbappe is as big as 7/4 with Bet365 for anytime scorer and that could be worth a punt, especially after Liverpool conceded twice against a limited Southampton side on Sunday. He's also 11/2 for an assist at Unibet and that's a good long-odds option.

Arne Slot's side could also get plenty of joy against a weakened Real Madrid defence and Luis Diaz looks good at evens with Bet365 for a goal or assist after a hat-trick against Leverkusen in his last European game.

Aston Villa vs Juventus top betting tips

Aston Villa are going through their worst run of form under Unai Emery but have the chance to get back on track on another huge Champions League night as Juventus come calling.

Saturday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace made it six games without a win for Villa, who last tasted a victory when Bologna came to the Midlands in October.

Juventus are ticking along nicely under new boss Thiago Motta and their only loss all season came against Stuttgart in the Champions League.

But the Turin giants have been drawing too many games, with eight of their matches ending level. This should be another tight game and the half-time stalemate appeals at evens with Betano.

Villa's Champions League matches haven't been producing a lot of corners, with double figures only hit once. That makes under 9.5 flag kicks appealing here at 20/23 with Betano.

Skipper John McGinn always gets stuck in for Villa so I like the 5/4 on offer at Bet365 for the midfielder to commit over 1.5 fouls.

Celtic vs Club Brugge top betting tips

Celtic were superb in their last Champions League outing against RB Leipzig and if they can reproduce the same performance against Club Brugge it should be enough to seal another precious victory.

Betano make the Bhoys their evens favourites under the lights at Celtic Park but the Belgians are no mugs, having already beaten Sturm Gruz and Aston Villa.

Club Brugge also smashed seven past Saint Truiden at the weekend so going for goals at both ends is probably the best option here.

BTTS pays just 8/15 at Betano but adding on over 2.5 goals boosts the odds to 40/45 in a bet builder. To get above evens, backing over 1.5 first-half goals pays 29/20 with the same firm.

Christos Tzolis scored four for Brugge in their weekend win so the Greek could be worth a punt at 8/5 with Bet365 to either score or assist tonight. Celtic winger Daizen Maeda also looks good at 6/5 in the same market.

Wednesday's Football Tips: Super singles

  • John McGinn over 1.5 fouls 5/4 Bet365
  • Luis Diaz goal or assist Evens Bet365
  • Over 1.5 first-half goals in Celtic v Brugge 29/20 Betano

Long shot

  • Kylian Mbappe assist 11/2 Unibet
