The 120th US Open tees off tomorrow, Thursday at Winged Foot West Course, Mamaroneck, New York and this for sure will be a test for all 144 starters to conquer.

We're pleased to have The Caddy present his best bets for what promises to be a thrilling weekend in the States.

If any of you can cast your minds back and remember Big Monty in 2006 on the middle of the final fairway, level with his nearest contender Geoff Ogilvie only to miss the green and three put, gone was his best ever opportunity to claim a major.

The winning score incidentally was +5 with Ogilvie not carding a round under par. Expect the same kind of scoring conditions this time around.

The greens are firm with narrow fairways. The rough is almost a foot long in places so accuracy and scrambling will be key come Sunday night.

Oosthuizen to beat Todd

I like the look of Louis Oosthuizen for my first selection, a 72 hole match bet between Brandon Todd. The South African has finished in the top 25 in his previous 5 US opens with 2 of those being top 10 finishes.

He always brings his A-game to these events and will definitely rise to the challenge this course presents.

I think he definitely has the measure of Brandon Todd who’s two previous US Opens are a best placed 17th and a missed cut.

Hideki Matsuyama

With Winged Foot definitely proving difficult to overpower I think the best alternative is to look for value. With putting and scrambling around the greens crucial and essential I therefore like the look off Hideki Mutsuyama.

The veteran from Japan definitely has the form and stats around the greens and at 33/1 looks good for an each way chance with most firms offering 1-10 places at 1-5 the odds.

Jason Day

Maybe another to have a look at is Jason Day. The Australian has recorded 5 top 10 finishes in this event and collected 4 top 10 finishes in his last six competitions.

He is another excellent scrambler around the greens , 28th in scoring average on the PGA tour and 2nd in sand saves so looks value and worth a punt at 35/1 beach way bet 365.

Tommy Fleetwood

One more to consider is Tommy Fleetwood. The Englishman finished 27th in 2015 in his first appearance in this tournament then went on to record 4th place in 2017 and an even more impressive 2nd in 2018.

He has found his game and a rhythm at just the right time for this event finishing tied 3rd in the Portugal Masters last week while striking the ball well in difficult conditions.

He spent the summer practicing in New York and if he brings his A-game then he can definitely be a contender come Sunday night, 35/1 each way at bet365.

No Hole-In-One

Finally one more selection I like the look of, more for fun than placing the mortgage on is for there not to be a hole-in-one at a best price Evens with most firms.
