Southampton vs Liverpool

, KO: 20:00 Apr 5, 2019, St Mary's Stadium
Liverpool

WITH only six Premier League games remaining Liverpool head for the south coast on Friday night aiming to take another huge step towards the Holy Grail.

Jurgen Klopp’s side may have not been at their brilliant best of late however they have been impressively grinding out results ahead of their potentially hectic domestic and European run in .

Following Manchester City’s victory against Cardiff on Wednesday the Reds can quickly reclaim top spot with victory at St Mary’s against Southampton.

Liverpool have left it late in their last two league outings and needed a penalty and an own goal to secure three points against Fulham and Spurs respectively. Although the Merseyside men came out of those games victorious there were evident signs of title race tension.

Ralph Hasenhüttl has done a quietly impressive job to date and looks on course to steer to the Saints to safety. In fact had his side's Premier League campaign begun when he took the reins before Christmas they would occupy a place in the top 10. As such another awkward assignment could await for Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane return to familiar surroundings for this encounter and both players have been pivotal to Liverpool's success this season. It was however Roberto Firmino who opened the scoring at Anfield last weekend and the Brazilian forward could well hit the target again in this Friday night fixture. Back the Liverpool No.9 to score anytime at 17/10 (Paddy Power).

Firmino’s compatriot Fabinho made a noticeable difference for Liverpool after coming off the bench in Sunday’s late show against Spurs. The combative midfielder should be restored to Klopp’s starting XI on the south coast on Friday night and could be worth backing to find his way into the referee's book. Fabinho has already racked up six bookings this season and can be backed to do so again at 4/1 (Sky Bet).

The home crowd will be buoyed following their south coast scalp last Saturday against neighbours Brighton and will be looking for a repeat of their surprise 2-1 win at home to Tottenham recently. The Saints have won three of their last four in the Premier League and have given their survival chances a shot in the arm in doing so.

Having netted twice in that aforementioned win against Spurs as well as doing the same at Old Trafford recently, the Saints could well find success in front of goal again when they entertain Liverpool.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that Liverpool have conceded against lowly Burnley and Fulham in recent weeks, backing both teams to score could be worth a Friday night flutter at 19/20 (bet365).

With Manchester CIty on FA Cup duty this weekend the Reds should reclaim top spot safe in the knowledge Pep Guardiola’s side don’t have the opportunity to make an immediate reply.

Consequently Klopp’s side can be expected to emerge from this fixture with another vital victory. Back Liverpool to take another significant stride in their title quest and to win to this game and for there to be over 2.5 goals at 23/20 (boylesports).
