Rotherham United vs Ipswich Town
English League One, KO: 12:30 Apr 16, 2022, AESSEAL New York StadiumRotherham United head into Saturday’s League One fixture with Ipswich Town in desperate need of a win to reignite their automatic promotion chances.
Having looked on course for automatic promotion for much of the season, there has been a steep drop in form for Rotherham United in recent weeks. They are still three points off second place but have claimed just one win from their last seven League One matches.
The 4-2 EFL Trophy victory over Sutton United has done little to boost Rotherham United’s confidence as they have lost their two matches since winning at Wembley. They are coming off a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Portsmouth in their midweek League One fixture.
Things are just as bad for Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium where they have claimed just one win from their last four home matches. Paul Warne’s men have lost the last two fixtures in that run failing to score in both matches.
Ipswich Town have also found things difficult lately and have claimed just one win from their last five League One matches. That poor run means their playoff chances are all but over as they sit ninth on the table, eight points off the top six with four matches left to play.
The Blues travel to Rotherham United off the back of a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town in their previous League One fixture. They struck early through James Norwood and held on for much of the encounter before conceding the equaliser six minutes from time.
Although manager Kieran McKenna will be disappointed not to have seen out the win at Shrewsbury Town, the result extended their unbeaten run on the road to six matches. However, they have played out four draws in the last five matches in that run.
How the bookies view it
Despite their recent struggles, Rotherham United have the edge among the bookies at 23/20 with Coral. A victory for Ipswich Town is valued at 3/1 by Unibet while SBK is offering odds of 28/13 for a draw.
Recent head to head
Rotherham United have the upper hand in recent matches against Ipswich Town, winning the last three meetings. However, the Millers appear to have fallen off badly since the 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in November.
Players to watch
Rotherham United have looked slightly off colour in attack, so midfielder Ben Wiles could be worth keeping an eye on having scored in the EFL Trophy final. He was also on target in the reverse fixture with Ipswich Town and is priced at 5/1 by Paddy Power to get on the score sheet on Saturday.
Ipswich Town often spread their goals across the team but striker Macaulay Bonne is their top scorer with 12 goals and is priced at 7/2 by Unibet to find the net on Saturday. Fellow attacker James Norwood has also been among the goals lately and could be worth considering in the same market at 10/3 with Betfred.
Anything else catch the eye?
Neither side appears able to keep things tight at the back and given their quality going forward, both teams could be backed to score at evens with Unibet. With both teams involved in some late showings in recent times, the second half could be tipped as the highest scoring half at 6/5 with Paddy Power.
A closely fought contest is expected on Saturday and both teams are likely to battle to a halftime draw at 21/20 with BetVictor.
