Rangers vs Aberdeen

, KO: 15:00 Mar 5, 2022, Ibrox
Aberdeen

RANGERS have been under fire from their own fans recently about some timid displays, but they face an Aberdeen side on Saturday who are toiling hugely.

The Ibrox side blew a huge chance to cut the gap last weekend when they threw away a two-goal lead at home against Motherwell to draw 2-2. They followed that up with an unimpressive 1-0 win at St Johnstone.

They've twice failed to beat Aberdeen this season and could easily have lost both games with a controversial penalty rescuing them at Ibrox and they were forced to hold on for a point with ten men at Pittodrie.

However, if new Dons boss Jim Goodwin was under any illusions about the sheer size of the task that awaits him, then their midweek, lamentable defeat at Hearts will have removed all doubts.

The Dons were completely overrun and outclassed and could and should have been routed. It was an abject display all over the pitch.

They are also having to contend with a heap of injuries just now and despite the much-cited claim that Aberdeen raise their game for playing against Rangers, it's hard to see this lot doing anything other than limping on to the end of a miserable season.

How the bookies view it

Rangers are 2/7 to win with McBookie.com with Aberdeen available to back at 12/1 with William Hill. The draw is 9/2 with SBK.

Recent head to heads

Aberdeen have twice snatched a point against Rangers this season after a 2-2 draw at Ibrox as can be seen below and a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

Players to watch

Fashion Sakala could get a run out on Saturday as he's unlikely to start against Red Star Belgrade last week. The Zambian striker is 7/5 with Paddy Power to score.

Lewis Ferguson missed his first ever penalty in midweek, but he'll be back on them and he loves a goal against the Old Firm – he's scored three against Celtic this season and once against Rangers. He's 9/2 with bet365 to score on Saturday.

Anything else catch the eye?

Aberdeen look like they are in serious trouble and are fortunate the games are running out and they have a nine point gap over the relegation places.

The midweek defeat at Hearts was probably the worst they have played all season – which is truly saying something – and this has the potential for Rangers to really ramp up their goal difference against a team who haven't won a league game since Boxing Day.

Rangers could get plenty of joy down the flanks and Aberdeen have also recently introduced zonal marking at corners – which Rangers will get a lot of. The Dons conceded through a corner in midweek.

It all points to a really convincing Rangers victory, especially as a big win is coming for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team who have been guilty of missing numerous chances.

Rangers and over 2.5 goals at 10/11 with McBookie.com should be the bedrock bet and go for the -2 on the handicap at 23/10 with Paddy Power too.

Aberdeen's central defence of David Bates and Declan Gallagher look seriously exposed here, Take a chance on the 15/4 with McBookie.com that Rangers score four goals or more.
