Plymouth Argyle vs Cheltenham

, KO: 19:00 , Home Park
Cheltenham

Plymouth Argyle will play host to Cheltenham Town in the EFL Trophy at Home Park on Tuesday night.

The two teams have been housed in Group J alongside Bristol Rovers and Tottenham's Under 21 side.

Plymouth have endured a miserable start to the season, coming away empty-handed from five of their opening six English League One contests of the campaign.

Last time out, the Pilgrims were put to the sword when losing 4-0 away at Cardiff, a setback that has increased the pressure on manager Tom Cleverley.

Similarly , Cheltenham Town have found life tough during the early stretch of the new EFL season, with Michael Flynn’s men currently propping up the table in English League Two.

That being said, the Robins did stop the rot by picking up their first point of the season courtesy of a 1-1 draw away at Salford on Saturday.

How the bookies view it: Pilgrims to pick up the points

Given that they play in the division above Cheltenham, it’s no surprise to see Plymouth as short-priced 13/20 favourites on Bet 365.

Cheltenham come into this clash as big outsiders at 17/5 on Bet 365 while the 90 minute draw at Home Park has been priced up at 13/5 with the same firm.

Head to head: History favours the hosts

Plymouth have an incredibly strong record in this fixture, emerging victorious from 19 of the overall 30 meetings between the pair, including each of the last six across all competitions.

Players to watch: Oseni to get on the scoresheet?

Owen Oseni has already scored a couple of goals in this season’s EFL Cup, so the Plymouth forward looks like a strong contender to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday night. At the time of writing, the bookmakers have yet to price up any player-based markets.

Cheltenham could look to forward Lee Angol for inspiration on Tuesday night. The experienced forward has scored three goals across his six appearances in all competitions this season.

Predicted line-ups

Plymouth boss Cleverley will almost certainly shuffle his pack on Tuesday night, though he will be unable to call upon the services of injured defender Brendan Galloway.

Cheltenham chief Flynn is also expected to rotate his resources at Home Park, with the likes of George Harmon, Jake Bickerstaff and Mamadou Diallo all likely to be given the nod.

Plymouth: Ashby-Hammond; Szucs, Mitchell, Galloway, Benarous; Ibrahim, Boateng; Finn, Amaechi, Mumba; Oseni

Cheltenham: Diallo; Mazionis, Cundy, Wilson; Power, Young, Broom, Harmon; Archer, Bickerstaff, Angol

Anything else catch the eye?

Backing Plymouth to win alongside Over 1.5 Goals will boost the odds about a home success to a much more attractive 11/10 on Bet 365.

This bet would have paid out in four of Cheltenham's last five defeats across all competitions, including a 3-0 loss away at Cardiff in the EFL Cup last midweek.

Alternatively, the 4/5 about Plymouth to score two or more goals on Tuesday night also looks worthy of support given how leaky their guests have been this season.
