DUNDEE have only reached the Scottish Cup quarter-finals once in the last nine years, but they have a golden opportunity to improve on that woeful record with a trip to Peterhead on Monday night.
The Dens Park club have famously not won the trophy for 112 years and while it's a big ask to break that sequence, they are expected to progress past League One Peterhead.
James McPake's side produced a superb comeback win at Tynecastle in midweek against Hearts to grab their first win in ten games and only their second away league win all season.
That win sums up Dundee who are one of the most inconsistent sides in the league. They are capable of giving anyone a game on their day, but equally likely to turn in a horror show.
A trip to Balmoor Stadium won't be easy for them. The Blue Toon are battling against getting sucked into the relegation play-offs, but manager – former Dundee United hero Jim McInally – will have them up for this.
But they haven't won in six games and it took penalties for them to see off Lowland League side East Kilbride in the last round.
How the bookies view it
The Premiership side are odds-on across the board with 3/4 with William Hill being the standout price. Peterhead are 4/1 with bet365 and it's 14/5 for the tie to go into extra time with McBookie.com.
Recent head to heads
The clubs have been drawn against each other five times in the last nine years in the League Cup. Peterhead won a tie six years ago, Dundee have won twice and there have been two draws.
Here's a taste of what Dundee can expect at the Balmoor as Peterhead edged out East Kilbride on penalties as you can see below in the last round.
Players to watch
Russell McLean has been Peterhead's dangerman this season. He's scored 11 for the season and netted in the last round against East Kilbride. He will be of interest once the goalscorers' prices go up.
Danny Mullen netted a double in midweek or at least is claiming them after his first goal went down as an own goal. He's a pest up front and Dundee will be looking for him to continue his recent hot streak.
Anything else catch the eye?
Peterhead struggle to score goals having netted just one goal in their last five league games and Dundee should have too much for them here provided it's the same Dundee that turned up at Tynecastle.
They are 2/1 to win to nil with McBookie.com and that could well be a decent price.
The visitors will come out firing for this one too after that win in the capital and although they are just too short to back to win at odds-on, there's more value for them to win half time and full time at 9/5 with Paddy Power.
