PARTICK THISTLE suffered their first defeat of the season last week at Queen's Park and face a tough Friday night encounter against unbeaten Caley Thistle.
Ian McCall's men had started the season extremely positively with League Cup success and they seem to have recruited well with the likes of Danny Mullen and Jack McMillan on board.
But they conceded one of the great, comedy own goals of Scottish football at home to Hamilton Accies – not that punters who had heavily backed them that day were laughing – and lost three goals to their promoted fellow Glasgow side at Ochilview last week too.
Former Thistle striker Billy Dodds has done a decent job in the Highlands and he got Inverness to the play-offs final last season before a collapse in Perth to St Johnstone.
But they appear to have suffered no ill effects from that experience and have started the campaign with a couple of draws against Queen's Park and Arbroath before thumping Cove Rangers last week. They won three of their four games in the League Cup too and drew the other.
And it could already be a crucial game between two sides who are expected to be up there this season.
How the bookies view it
Thistle are the favourites here with home advantage and they can be backed at 13/10 with McBookie.com. ICT are 21/10 with bet365 and Boylesports have the draw at 11/5.
Recent head to heads
The sides met a remarkable six times last season – four times in the Championship and twice in the play-offs, including a 2-1 win at Firhill as can be seen below. Inverness won home and away in the play-offs.
In the league games, it was a win apiece and two draws.
Players to watch
Brian Graham will be the Jags' main danger man against this season even at 34. He's scored three times already this campaign.
Austin Samuels had a poor loan spell last season at Aberdeen, but the former Wolves striker reinvented himself last season in the Highlands and joined them permanently after a loan spell. Netted a double last week against Cove.
Prices should be out on Thursday.
Anything else catch the eye?
This should be an entertaining clash at Maryhill, but both sides may end up cancelling each other out and a draw could well be the call here.
Thistle have been an entertaining side to watch this season and there are usually goals at both ends when they play – that's been the case in six of their seven games. Their only clean sheet this season has come at home to Highland League Fraserburgh.
It makes McBookie.com's 21/20 for both teams to score look an attractive shout with Inverness more than capable of contributing too.
