Norwich City host Sunderland in the Championship on Sunday as they look to maintain their push for a promotion playoff finish. The Canaries have been in good form in recent weeks and should be too strong for the visitors, who are struggling at the moment.
Norwich have a straightforward task for the rest of the season as they look to seal a promotion playoff finish. They currently occupy the final playoff spot, although the likes of Millwall, Coventry City and West Brom are breathing down their neck.
The Canaries have been able to fend off the chasing pack in recent weeks as they are unbeaten in their last five Championship matches. David Wagner’s men have claimed four wins in that run, including a 3-2 victory at Millwall in their previous fixture.
Norwich City have done some of their best work at Carrow Road in recent weeks, winning their last three home matches. The goals have flowed freely in that run, scoring eight times and conceding just twice.
Sunderland’s recent form has been in stark contrast to their hosts’ as they are winless in their last four Championship matches. They have suffered three straight defeats and remain in the bottom half of the table.
The Black Cats travel to Carrow Road off the back of a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Stoke City. They were second best throughout the encounter with Alex Pritchard’s effort midway through the second half proving to be a mere consolation.
Another problem for Sunderland is that they have found things difficult on their recent travels with just one win in their last five away matches. Tony Mowbray’s men have lost their last two fixtures on the road, suffering back-to-back 2-1 defeats to Rotherham United and Coventry City.
How the bookies view it
The bookies have Norwich City as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at 7/8 by SBK. A victory for Sunderland is valued at 16/5 by William Hill while bet365 is offering odds of 11/4 for a draw.
Head to head
Norwich City have a 16-11 advantage with seven draws from 34 previous matches with Sunderland. The Canaries also claimed a 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture back in August with Josh Sargent getting the only goal.
Players to watch
Sargent remains the leading scorer for Norwich City this season with 11 Championship goals and will be the one to watch on Sunday. The striker also got the winner in the reverse fixture and is priced at 17/10 by Paddy Power to get on the score sheet.
With top scorer Ross Stewart still out injured, Sunderland will look to Amad Diallo, who has found the net eight times this season. The forward was also on target in their previous away fixture at Coventry City and is priced at 19/5 by William Hill to get on the score sheet.
Anything else catch the eye?
Norwich City have seen over 3.5 goals in two of their last three home matches and could be set for a repeat at 5/2 with Betfred. Over 2.5 goals can also be considered at evens with William Hill while bet365 is offering odds of 5/6 on both teams to score.
The Canaries have also scored in both halfs in two of last three matches and Sunday’s clash could be tipped to follow a similar pattern at 2/1 with Coral.
