RANGERS will look to bounce back from their disappointing defeat in Paisley on Boxing Day as they travel to North Lanarkshire to take on Motherwell.
Rangers failed to narrow the gap back to nine points with leaders Celtic on Thursday, as they conceded in stoppage-time to lose 2-1 against St Mirren.
Whilst Philipe Clement’s side have been strong at home in the league this campaign (W8-D1-L0), that result highlighted the struggles they’ve had on their travels, with that being their fourth defeat from eight (W3-D1-L4).
Motherwell saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end on Boxing Day, as they fell to an expected 4-0 defeat away at champions Celtic, a result saw Stuart Kettlewell’s side fall down to sixth position in the Scottish Premiership table.
It’s been a mixed bag for The Steelmen at Fir Park this season, with them picking up 14 points from a possible 27 (W4-D2-L3), with all three of those losses coming in their past six.
How the bookies view it: Gers favourites
Despite that defeat last time out, Rangers are 3/10 favourites at BoyleSports to claim just a fourth away win of the season.
The same firm are pricing Motherwell at 7/1 to claim a rare home win against the Ibrox club, whilst the draw is 4/1.
Head to head: Gers dominance in this fixture
Rangers have a quite incredible record at Fir Park, losing just one of their past 32 matches in North Lanarkshire and not in the Scottish top flight since 2002.
Players to Watch: Danilo to deliver?
Danilo came off the bench in Paisley and got Rangers back on terms, with the Brazilian now scoring in four of his past five appearances for The Gers.
Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is The Steelmen’s leading scorer with four goals, with three of those coming this month.
Probable line-ups
Stuart Kettlewell will be without the injured quartet of Paul McGinn, Callum Slattery, Ross Callachan and Jack Vale.
Experienced defender Leon Balogun was forced off with an injury in Paisley, whilst The Gers will also be without on-loan Feyenoord defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Tom Lawrence.
Motherwell: Oxborough, Casey, Balmer, Blaney, Kaleta, Halliday, Miller, Wilson, Paton, Sparrow, Stamatelopolous
Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Propper, Sterling, Jefte, Raskin, Diomande, Cerny, Hagi, Danilo, Igamane
Anything else catch the eye?
Once Leon Balogun went off injured in Paisley early on Thursday, Rangers looked vulnerable defensively, with his replacement Robin Propper, in particular, not looking like a proper centre-back.
Both Teams to Score has paid out in both meetings between the pair in league and cup this season, and a repeat here appeals.
Rangers did go on to win both of those matches 1-2 – and even though their away form has been their Achilles heel this season – The Teddy Bears' record at this venue, coupled up with a massive 14/18 (78%) of Motherwell’s Premiership fixtures delivering three or more goals makes me also have a play on Rangers to Win & Over 2.5 Goals.
