Leicester City vs Manchester City
English Premier League, KO: 14:30 Dec 29, 2024, King Power StadiumLeicester City will take on Man City in the Premier League on Sunday, 29 December with the hosts looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats.
The Foxes took a shock lead at Anfield on Boxing Day before succumbing to a 3-1 loss but they should take encouragement from their overall display.
Man City, meanwhile, continue to struggle and were held by Everton last time out. Pep Guardiola's men are now outside the top four and have a fight on their hands to get back in.
How the bookies view it: Man City start as big favourites
Despite their recent poor run of form, Manchester City still start this one as the heavy favourites with the bookies which isn't a huge surprise given they are still the champions of England. BoyleSports have priced a Man City win at 3/10 while a win for Leicester City has been priced at 15/2. The draw, which would be a good result for the hosts, has been priced at 4/1.
Recent head-to-head: Man City dominance
Manchester City have an excellent recent record against Leicester City with the Citizens winning each of their last five league matches against the Foxes. Leicester's last win over Man City came in the 2021 Community Shield while their last victory over them in the Premier League was back in September 2020 when they secured a 5-2 win at the Etihad Stadium.
Players to watch: Can Haaland escape his rut?
Erling Haaland is currently enduring the worst run of form of his Man City career and has now scored just one goal in his last seven Premier League appearances. That run of form has seen Mo Salah leapfrog Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot and the Norweigan needs three goals to catch the Liverpool forward.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like Haaland can buy a goal at the moment. Against Everton, he had a golden opportunity to get on the scoresheet from the penalty spot but saw his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford.
With no other strikers in the Man City squad, Haaland has no choice but to try and play (and score) his way through his current barren run of form. The former Borussia Dortmund man has only ever faced Leicester once before and he netted twice in that match so will be hopeful that these are his perfect opponents.
Predicted line-ups
Leicester City will be without Jordan Ayew for this one after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Liverpool. Manchester City have a number of doubts ahead of this one with Kyle Walker, Ederson, Matheus Nunes, Jack Grealish and John Stones all touch-and-go. Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Ruben Dias are all definitely out.
Leicester City: Stolarczyk – Justin, Okoli, Vestergaard, Kristiansen – Soumare, Winks – Decordova-Reid, Buonanotte, Mavididi – Vardy
Manchester City: Ortega – Lewis, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol – Kovacic, Gundogan – Savinho, Silva, De Bruyne – Haaland
Anything else catch the eye?
A common theme in Man City's well-documented bad run of form has been goals going at both ends of the pitch. The Blues have both scored and conceded in each of their last four Premier League matches and both teams to score on Sunday has been priced at 6/10 by BoyleSports.
