Juventus go in search of a fifth straight Serie A win when they welcome champions Inter Milan to the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Inter have looked out of sorts in recent weeks and Juventus will view this as a proper test of their recent improvement.
It is a testament to Juventus’ resurgence that they can leapfrog Inter Milan with a win on Sunday. Even more impressive is the fact that a win could see them back in the title race as they could move to within four points of leaders AC Milan if other results go their way this weekend.
Without the distraction of the Champions League, Juventus can now focus on domestic matters as they are currently on a 16 match unbeaten run in Serie A. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have won their last four league matches, including a 2-0 victory over Salernitana prior to the international break.
The Allianz Stadium has also played its part in Juventus’ recent resurgence as they are unbeaten in their last eight home matches in Serie A. They have claimed six wins in that run, keeping clean sheets in all their victories.
The international break probably came at the right time for Inter Milan as their title defence appeared to be unravelling. Simone Inzaghi’s men have claimed just one win from their last seven Serie A matches and have dropped to third on the table, six points behind AC Milan.
Inter Milan went into the break off the back of successive 1-1 draws with Torino and Fiorentina in their last two Serie A matches. The fact that they had to come from behind in both matches, including an injury time equaliser at Torino, points to a problem at both ends of the pitch.
The Nerazzurri have also not been at their best on their recent travels and are winless in their last four away matches. The good news is that all four matches have ended in draws and turning those results into wins could get their campaign back on track.
How the bookies view it
Inter Milan have the slight edge among the bookies and are priced at 8/5 by Betfred to claim the win. A victory for Juventus is valued at 15/8 by SBK while a draw is set at odds of 12/5 by bet365.
Recent head to head
Inter Milan claimed a 2-1 extra-time win in the Super Cup back in January, ending a run of four unbeaten matches for Juventus in this fixture. Both teams played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture while the Turin club triumphed 3-2 in the last meeting at the Allianz Stadium.
Players to watch
Dusan Vlahovic missed the international break with a groin injury but appears to have recovered in time for Sunday’s clash. The Serbian striker has scored four goals in seven matches since joining Juventus in January and is priced at 15/8 by Betfred to get on the score sheet.
Inter Milan will once again bank on the twin attacking threat of Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko who have scored a combined 26 goals this season. Bet365 have Dzeko at 2/1 to score anytime while Unibet is offering odds of 21/10 on Martinez in the same market.
Anything else catch the eye?
There were over 3.5 goals in the last meeting at the Allianz Stadium and with both teams boasting plenty of attacking quality, a repeat could be on the cards at 27/10 with BetVictor. Over 2.5 goals could also be considered at evens with SBK, who are also offering 7/9 on both teams to score.
Juventus have opened the scoring in the last three meetings and with Inter Milan going behind in their last two matches, the Turin club could be tipped to score first in Sunday at 11/10 with Coral.
