Hungary vs Israel

, KO: 18:00 Jun 8, 2024, Nagyerdei Stadion
Israel

HUNGARY'S unbeaten run came to an end in Dublin on Tuesday so they'll be desperate to bounce back with a win over Israel in their final warm-up game for Euro 2024.

The Magyars had gone 14 matches without defeat heading to the Aviva Stadium and will be wondering how they ended up losing a match they dominated for long spells.

Going for the win actually cost Marco Rossi's men in Dublin as Troy Parrot scored a stoppage-time winner on the break as Hungary pushed players forward for a corner.

Now it's about getting back on track against an Israel side who are still smarting from losing heavily to Iceland in the Euro play-off semi-finals.

This is their first game since that devastating loss and new gaffer Ran Ben Shimon will be looking for a response as he gets his reign under way.

Although it appears the Israeli squad have little to play for, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East ensures the players have a point to prove whenever they pull on the national colours.

How the bookies view it: Hungary favourites to banish Irish demons

Hungary are heavy favourites for a winning Euros send-off on home soil as Bet365 price them at just 9/20. Israel are as big as 9/2 and the draw pays 16/5.

Head to head: Honours even so far

These sides have only met three teams in their history and there's nothing between them with one apiece and one stalemate.

That draw came in the last meeting back in 2012 with Tomer Hemed grabbing a late leveller for the Israelis in Budapest.

Players to watch: Sealed with a Krisz

Rossi will probably make some changes from the Irish defeat to give players a runout ahead of the Euros. Youngster Krisztofer Horvath could start up front and he's 15/8 for anytime scorer.

Israel's squad doesn't include some of their most recognised players as Shimon experiments a little. Tai Baribo looks the most likely to lead the line and the Philadelphia Union man is 7/2 for anytime scorer.

Probable line-ups

Expect Hungary to make a few changes from midweek as they give players some game time while Shimon will probably pick the strongest Israel team at his disposal as he bids to start with a win.

Hungary: Gulacsi, Nego, Botka, Lang, Szalai, Kerkez, Nagy, Schafer,  Sallai, Szoboszlai, Horvarth.

Israel: Glazer, Arad, Daham, Cohen, Nachimas, D Biton, Jaber, Kinda, Safouri, Lavi, Glazer, Baribo,

Anything else catch the eye?

Both teams to score has landed in seven of Hungary's nine games this season and has also come up in three of the last four for Israel. That suggests this could be a decent game and combining BTTS with over 2.5 goals pays 11/8.

Hungary have been strong at home and will be looking to put on a show for the fans in Debrecen. They are 11/8 to score in each half and that could pay off given Israel shipped four goals in their last outing.

For a long-odds option, Hungary's creative spark Dominik Szoboszlai is 6/1 to score from outside the box and that could be worth a punt as he packs a punch from long distance.
