Chelsea vs Crystal PalaceEnglish Premier League, KO: 12:30 Oct 3, 2020, Stamford Bridge
BIG-spending Chelsea have made a shaky start to the season so the Blues will be desperate to collect a much-needed three points when they play host to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.
Frank Lampard's vibrant young side exceeded expectations last term and the Chelsea legend has since forked out over £200m on the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, amongst others.
However, Lampard's new-look side suffered a bruising reality check when hosting Liverpool before finding themselves 3-0 down inside the opening 30 minutes away at newly-promoted West Brom last Saturday.
Indeed, the Blues battled back to salvage a point at the Hawthorns, however, their early-season struggles have bared all the hallmarks of the type of performances that haunted Chelsea last term.
Crystal Palace, meanwhile, have made a quietly impressive start to their campaign having collected six points from a possible nine thus far.
The Eagles have regularly punched above their weight under Roy Hodgson's astute management and the capital club will head across the city high in confidence following their 3-1 win at Old Trafford a fortnight ago.
Chelsea have won eight of their last 10 matches at Stamford Bridge and a home success on Saturday is odds-on at 4/9 with Boylesports.
Chelsea, having conceded six goals across their opening three assignments of this season, have displayed all the defensive flaws that plagued them in the Premier League last term.
What's more, goals tend to flow in this fixture – seven of the last 10 tussles have produced three or more strikes – and I see no reason to oppose goals at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Indeed, Lampard has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, however, I suspect Palace could have the tools to trouble the Blues brittle backline.
Both teams have notched in four of the six league matches that these two sides have contested collectively thus far and with that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised to see both teams to score here trading at 17/20 with Betway.
Whether or not both teams oblige remains to be seen and rather than hanging my hat on both teams to score, I'm also going to opt for a Bet Builder with the view to getting Chelsea onside.
The Bet Builder that I like the look of is Chelsea to win, over one match goal and Crystal Palace to collect at least one card, which will give us a nice looking 20/23 shot with Bet 365 – a bet that would have banked profit in both meetings last season.
A good candidate to consider for a card is Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy who is priced up at 10/3 with William Hill to be cautioned in this contest.
McCarthy clocked up nine yellow cards for Crystal Palace last term – the tough-tackling Irishman has once card to his name this season – and he looks overpriced for a to be booked at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
