MANCHESTER United sustained a horror start to their Premier League season and they will be desperate to bounce back when they face Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend – United's worst opening day defeat since 1995.
United's form since the turn of the year sparked a real sense of optimism at Old Trafford, however, last Saturday's setback was a brutal reality check for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co.
Standing in United's way this weekend is a Brighton outfit who made light work of Newcastle when winning 3-0 at St James' Park last Sunday.
Graham Potter's possession-based style has earned the Seagulls plenty of plaudits and it's also worth noting that no team outside the top-ten lost fewer games than Albion last season.
Having said that, Brighton were in a precarious position when the Premier League resumed last term and survival will again be the immediate aim for the south coast side.
Outright Betting
Brighton are big outsiders at 19/5 with William Hill, while a share of the spoils can be backed at 11/4 with Betfred.
Manchester United won 3-0 at this venue back in June – with both of my recommended bets landing – and an away success this weekend is at a best 3/4 with Bet 365.
Betting Angles
Brighton have won only one of their last 10 top-light tussles on home turf and they will be hard tasked when trying to topple a Man united team who will be hurting after being humbled by Crystal Palace last Saturday.
It's also worth noting that five of the last six Premier League fixtures at the Amex have produced three or more goals and a repeat this weekend will tempt plenty of punters at 10/11 with BetVictor.
Indeed, the above-mentioned odds make appeal, however, I'm going to opt for an alternative angle by backing Man United to score two or more goals in this match at 17/20 with William Hill.
The Red Devils have scored two or more goals in each of their last four Premier League road trips and I fancy a repeat if Solskjaer unleashes his scintillating attacking trio on the south coast on Saturday.
What's more, Brighton have conceded 14 goals across their last five home matches – an average of 2.8 goals per game – and I suspect the Seagulls possession-based style of football could play into United's hands on the counter-attack.
Man United's mini-revival last term coincided with the arrival of Bruno Fernandes who's eye-catching displays brought some traditional swagger back to United's style of play.
The Portuguese playmaker brilliantly dismantled Brighton back in June and value could lie with the 9/5 on offer with PaddyPower for Fenrnandes to notch his first league goal of the season on Saturday.
The midfield maestro has quickly established himself as United's talisman and given that he tends to hit free-kicks and penalties, the above-mentioned anytime goalscorer angle catches the eye.
