St James's Park, Saturday, 12.45pm, live on BT Sport
SINCE the days of Kevin Keegan and Liverpool 4, Newcastle 3 results the fixture has been much anticipated on the English card.
It rarely fail to deliver thrills and spills and there has never been a 0-0 between the pair in the Premier League and more recently the last four meetings at St James's Park have averaged 4.5 goals.
Most have gone to Liverpool – including six last season – and they are justifiably 9-10 favourites at Ladbrokes to pick up the points having won 10 of the last 14 meetings between the sides.
I reckon Brendan Rodgers's side will shade it but I'm more interested in backing the overs. Over 3.5 goals pays 7-4 at Paddy Power, William Hill and others and I'll be splitting my stake with over 2.5 at 8-11 at Ladbrokes.
According to easyodds, only one fixture in Premier League history (Arsenal v Spurs with 125 goals) has produced more goals than this encounter (122).
Steven Gerrard clinched England's place in Brazil with the second strike against Poland on Tuesday and could reach another landmark today. Gerrard has scored 99 goals in the Premier League – seven against Newcastle – and is 10-3 at Coral to net anytime.
However, the players who will be seriously backed in the scorer's market are Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez and remember Newcastle are without several defenders including Fabricio Colocinni and Steven Taylor.
Sturridge and Suarez have netted 12 goals in the nine matches they've played together this year and Sturridge has hit the target in his last five away games.
I'll be on both to score – both are 5-4 at bet365 and BetVictor. It has to be remembered Suarez has been on World Cup duty with Uruguay – netting in a 3-2 win over Argentina – so he could be jaded so for first goal Sturridge could be the better bet at 19-4 at BetVictor.
We can't forget the part Newcastle play in these games and both teams to score pays 4-6 with Ladbrokes.
Each of Newcastle's last 12 league goals have been scored by Frenchmen and Loic Remy, five goals in six starts, is the most likely home striker. He is 9-4 at Betfred to net at anytime and 7-1 to break the deadlock.
The stats also suggest both will score in Arsenal v Norwich. The Canaries have netted in each of their last seven league games against the Londoners, according to easyodds, and the Gunners have managed just three clean sheets in 14 at the Emirates. Both to score is a biggest 11-10 at Boylesports.
I still expect Arsenal to win. They are no bigger than 3-10 at Paddy Power and BetVictor so why not consider them to win with scoring on a market growing in popularity.
That pays 2-1 and doubled with Newcastle-Liverpool pays £105 to a £10 stake.

Mr fixit, i think you meant to have arsenal, Liverpool btts and win at the bottom?
Ian M, thanks it’s sorted now.
On liverpool/over 2.5 goals and arsenal/over 2.5 goals at oods of 3.5/1 that’ll be the main bet for tomorrow
Like the look of those 2 and adding in Warford at home to Derby @ 11/4 and aberdeen @ 4/1 at home to Dundee Utd. 4 Trebles and a 4fold.
Liverpool to win with Suarez scoring.
Gerrard brings up his ton, good shout Mr f
Inspirational bit of tipping Mr F. Over 2.5, Suarez and Sturridge would have been most peoples idea of winning bets but you ignored the obvious and it paid off, well done.
Great tips Mr F, 2 out of 3 and a bit unlucky not to be on for the 3rd leg.
Ian M, Raaljaca, stats suggested over 3.5 goals so that seemed a better bet than Liverpool to win. Also thought Gerrard was worth a look after his England goal and looking for his 100th in the Premier League.
